My go to favorite is Caron Simply Soft. Its a worsted but I think its a little thinner than most. But I really like the way it feels and I've used it to make baby blankets for my sisters kids when she was expecting, and the blankets are still really soft, after 4 and 2 years of washing. So that's a great find. They are a little bit more expensive for a big chain brand and the skeins are less yardage. I think its worth it though.

Aww thanks Krista! I know how hard and crazy patterns can be to read especially when they aren't published patterns, but just ones someone made up and wrote them selves, lol. I have had to push my way through enough patterns now, that I can pretty much figure it out ^_^
Oooooookay- I think I figured it out. I had to actually pull our some yarn and try it out to see what they were talking about. Here is how it goes
SHE SAYS- [what I say will be in these brackets]
Head (make 1)
Round 1 In yellow,
ch 6, 1 sc in second stitch from hook, [Ch 6, work 1 SC in the 2nd Stitch from your hook]
3 sc, [work 1 SC in the NEXT 3 Stitches]
3 sc in last stitch from starting chain, [Work 3 SC in the last Stitch or your starting chain]
working along in the opposite side, You will now be working in a circle, so your next Stitch will worked into the unused site of the foundation chain]
3 sc, work 1 SC in the NEXT 3 stitches ]
2 sc in next st, [work 2 SC in the last unused stitch] [now you should have a little oval shape]
using the stitch marker to mark the first stitch of the next round [Place a stitch marker, such as a safety pin in the next stitch, the one that you would normally slip stitch into to close this round. But done slip stitch because you're just working in continuous rounds. Keep moving the stitch marker are you complete rounds]
---12 sts [before moving on to the next round, count backwards from your hook, you should only have 12 stitches]
I hope that helps, if not let me know and I can try and break it down further, or maybe take pictures. I think this pattern was written for people who are extremely proficient in reading patterns and working in the round :S
Fear not! I am on it lol I saw your post a few days ago, but keep forgetting to go and actually read the pattern, but I will do that now. (I crochet a lot, and have made a few animals too)
Yey!!! I'm glad you got them all done and in turn will be making some extra money like you said, it great that they are helping out children, but bein paid (even a small amount) for your work is really gratifying. Plus now you have extra money for the holidays! Congratulations!
Awesome thanks Kerri. I'll try it out!
Yeah Kerri, if you can find the link that would be awesome! I've found a pattern that's ok, but not great. So I'd love to test out the one you have in mind
I found them on amazon.com

Uncommon Goods had them, but they are all out, they do have the adorable fox mittens though

Brandi, that is a super cute pattern, I don't think it will work for the ones I need for my mom's class but my best friend just had a little girl so I will totally be using it for that! THANKS FOR SHARING!!
you could try something like this with needle and thread
http://woolnhook.blogspot.com/2011/08/invisible-seam-reverse-mattress-stitch.html
I'd sew squares together to get rows. Then sew rows together
Or try this using your crochet hook

I kinda like the look of this last links method. I hate having to try and thread yarn through a needle. I even have the huge size ones made for yarn, I still hate it so I like that this one doesn't use a needle and thread. Also it looks like it would work up quickly.
Yey! No problemo ^_^ I'm glad to help, I love searching the internet for cool ideas!
You gotta check out this pattern too

it looks really cute!
I always say check out ravelry.com first (if you haven't been there already) because its easy to search and has lots of projects. I haven't ever crocheted a purse. I just learned how to crochet within the last year, and have been working on blankets, scarves and hats. But ravelry always helps me find what I need.
Sorry I can't recommend an actual pattern though :S If you've never been to ravelry.com you need to sign up for it, its totally free though, and it's great because you can save patterns you like to your favorite, so you don't have to do a search every time you want to find it, and you can add personal notes to your favs like "this on was easy, but added a few changes ....blah blah blah" lol.
Yes I have been on ravlery, I was just hoping could recommend one that they have tried. Sometimes I get part way through a new pattern, and realize its rubbish.
Hey friends
My mom wants me to crochet 15 beanies for the kids in her class, she teaches 1st grade so the kids are like 7years old. Anyway she is buying the yarn for me I and just putting in the time to make them for her, and I need a good pattern. I know you can search on ravelry and pinterest and there are a few here, but I was hoping someone knew of a good one they had tried already.
I'm fairly new to crochet, but I have found that if the pattern is easy to understand, or written out I can do just about anything.
So can anyone recommend a pattern for 7 year old kids? Nothing fancy, just a plain beanie, because I am going to add in stripes of the school's colors.
Thanks!
