Get something cheesy that just screams Penn! lol I was born and raised in Idaho, but my family still thinks its funny to buy and send me stuff that they probably found in a truck stop gift isle. Its always funny and its not like I ever feel weird that they are sending me gifts, because they are usually small and funny, nothing ever big or spendy.
Another great idea is something edible for your friend, if she isn't big in to spontaneous gifts. idk what Penn is famous for, but Idaho is famous for Potatoes so I love buying this candy called "Idaho Spuds" and giving them to friends! Or when I lived in upstate NY I'd give people real Maple syrup or a local wine, because they are both amazing.
For your man, maybe you could just plan a date night, like dinner and a movie, even if that means cooking dinner at home and renting a show. My hubby is always having to leave and go places for the army, sometimes is a few months, sometimes its a year, lol. But he loves just normal date nights. So maybe you could pick him up something small, and then also plan on doing something cool together as a date
I'll message you
If you buy it ship it to one of us USA friends then we could forward it on to you. Just a thought
What if you made her some Nightmare Before Christmas art for her room? You could look online for some prints you like and either paint/draw your own version or simply print them out on some cardstock and put in some nice frames. You can usually find nice frames at the dollar stores, or even some of the big stores have some for only a few dollars each. And to make them look even better you could add ribbon to the backs of the frames with a bow at the top. So they hang from the ribbon, not the hooks on the back of the frame.
A few other ideas I came up with were, a jack & sally matching pillows. If you found black throw pillows or regular pillow cases you could hand sew on felt to make jack's face on one and sally's on the other. Or a set of hair clips/headbands/bobby pins, you could make the character faces out of polymer clay and then glue them on to the hair accessory.
@Libby Yeah I was kinda thinking about starting on a patchwork crochet blanket. I figured if I did 2 colors in a blanket I could start making the neutral patches now. Like I saw one that was made with only like 12 large squares and two colors, so one could be like cream/tan and then the other color could be pink/blue when I find out the gender in a few months.
Or I could just wait all together, and sew a quilt when I know what they are having. lol
@Julie- practical, good idea I've kinda been thinking about that, so I was kinda leaning towards making blanket as a main item, and making them throw sizes. so they could be used for quite awhile. Oh and burp cloths and matching bibs are a great idea I just wish I didn't have to wait all the way until April to find out the genders!
Hey Crafty Pals!
I need some help with gift ideas for first time mommies My best friend and sister just found out in December that they are both pregnant. And both due the same month. Since I want to spoil them both I am very eager to start think of gifts to either make for them, buy, or probably do a little of both and put in a big gift basket.
So I need to know from experienced mommies, or people who have given gifts that they know the new parents loved. Or whats something you wished you would have had? What are some great ideas for gifts?
Thanks for any ideas
Yeah I read the blog its linked to, and it is super easy! I have never made soap ever, but I feel confident reading the instructions, plus they are tiny soaps, you pour them into ice cube trays! how cute is that! I will def be making some for my family and friends

Ps!! I found this on pinterest the other day and loooove it! It looked super easy and adorable
Iove the pinterest idea for big containers of chocolate chip cookie dough!!! That's so fun!
This year for people I don't know their likes/dislikes very well (maybe this could be for your pastors family) I am doing a Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix with some also homemade peppermint marshmallows in the shapes of snow flakes
For people I know like coffee I am just buying a local brand's holiday flavors, one for each person, and then making cute sugar cubes in the shapes of little hearts and also I am crocheting a set of coasters for each person too, but you could sew them some instead!
Homemade treats are always a hit especially when you add in a personal cards ^_^
I would buy a cloak/cape pattern that was close and then just alter the bottom to have the length you wanted
I have been grabbing everything to test out textures and designs. But I think the best idea I have had was to buy plastic knives and use a exacto knife to cut it into the plastic and make different tools Or if you want to just buy some check out etsy.com they always have tons of supplies for sculpey clay
I think they were thinking of eyelet fabric. Try that
hummm... well maybe you could link them together and make a very interesting chain necklace or bracelet. To make it look more like jewelry you could add in some beads on links
