Ebay would be the first place I'd look or Amazon. There's also Art of Yarn http://www.artofyarn.co.uk/ and they have a pretty good range. You could check if Kirsty at Wharfdale Wools has anything similarhttps://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/WharfedaleWoolworks?ref=pr_shop_more She dyes her own wool and has a good selection of colours and does custom orders. She's a bit pricier but has some beautiful colours.

I taught myself to crochet from youtube but found a really good book recently from the library which has some really simple and small projects. Its called Fun & Funky Crochet by Sophie Britten. I didn't use any of the patterns but it got me really inspired and I've made loads of other bits since borrowing it.
Uploaded my first crochet creation so it should appear tomorrow Its a crocheted hat. It was a bit of silliness as I'd crocheted a couple of tiny squares and needed an actual project to try and my boyfriend suggested a hat so that's what I did. I didn't follow any pattern, I just made it up as I went along. I'm a definite convert to crochet though so thanks both of you for the tips and advice
Ashley & Creative you'll be pleased to know that my crochet now looks like crochet!! *dances round room*
Michelle check out the you tube stuff Creative posted, she starts from the casting on.
I've been watching some of the You Tube stuff you recommended - wow, thats not a crochet hook she's using its a magic wand She makes it look so easy but I'm chuffed to see she starts right from the basics.
I didn't even occur to me to check you tube. Thanks. That will get me past the bit of understanding the shorthand.
Thank you. I don't think I was increasing, well initially I think I was and then forgot :/ Probably went to cook dinner of something. I need to get the hang of the short hand used in patterns too. It took me a while with knitting.
I've just discovered crochet. I've been trying to do a circle but it keeps coming out like a hat for my thumb. It looks nice and neat but not really what I was going for. Any suggestions where I'm going wrong? Also any ideas for simple projects?
I'm pretty new to it too and have started with a scarf. I've used pretty big needles and interesting wool to keep me interested (although when the weather warmed up here I put it down - I'll pick it up again when it gets cold).
