ok since no one else has posted...
I haven't got a sewing machine and never used one but there's basic things to take into account when you follow a pattern. Read it all the way through first, maybe even copy it in note form so it's even easier to follow. Just go slowly and carefully and if it doesn't work out then you have some experience and next time your skills will be be much improved.
I always start off at a level too advanced for me because I'm too impatient, I'd rather experiment then start with beginner level things lol I think going in at the deep end is good because then you don't get stuck on only doing easy things.
You could just google search for a simpler pattern have fun at the wedding!

ooooooo I thought you meant like there was a bit missing out of the hat...id just follow the way the stitches are on the edge of the patch like Izzy did
what is the hat made of? I'd say just use running stitch like this - - - - - - - - - although the stitches will be visable that way...I'm no good at describing sewing!!!
the Emma 88 model, as in my hands!!!!
yay for mummies!
were you using running stitch like this - - - - - - or i dont know the name of the other time when it looks like this ))))))) but vertically?
I TOLD YOU! mmm that's weird usually felt stays together when I sew it doing a different stitch could help too (depending on what stitch you're using!) but you've probably fallen out with felt now ah ha
