GRRRRRRR-religion
that is a really cool argument towards that guy. Coz he's portraying God as a jealous person. I'm glad I don't believe in God anymore. I was baptized a Catholic, then went agnostic but now I believe there are higher beings but not God and not how the bible says it is.
I think most people are swaying towards science these days and if there is a God and such then the bible would be a highly acurate account of actual events and how could that possibly happen with how old it is. There are religions far older than some of ours now and if you look at mythology you will see some parrellels!
I hate this thing about how evolution goes against what the bible says and how very religious people will deny it but there is real physical evidence of dinosaurs and cavemen! There are lots of really interesting theories about why some people need religion. My friend told me one but I can't remember it!
I'm not offended at all, and im catholic. I read somewhere in my catholic handbook for youth that christian sometimes are too quick to judge, and call anyone who is not christian a sinner (not ALL Christians, just some) and it specifically said that we have to respect people of other religions. Personally, I like being catholic, being forgiven when i sin. I dont like being threatened with hell, but i like fealing loved and cherished by god, that jesus gave up his life for me. Some people are such extremists. I'm pro gay and theres nothing wrong with it. I dont think everyone whos non-religious is going to hell, just the really bad people (rapists, molesters, even religions rapists and murderers) I hate whenever people are such jerks to anyone who doesnt believe exactly what they believe.
My dads girlfriend is totally anti-religion, but thats only because her father and mother like BRAINWASHED her, and she had a really hard time in highschool, you know trying to break free and all that.
I'm joining a youth group, but im really worried. I dont want them to not like me and alienate me just cuz I listen to certain types of music and dress a certain way. I just really dont want them to try to you know....brainwash me.
dont be scared, be sure of yuor self, i wear a hijab right? and they ALWAYS come telling me my rights and stuff and how my religion (islam) is opressing me..
like excuse you?
ahah but be yourself, they'll HAVE to accept you as you are
and belive me they will in their tiny ways try to brain wash you, but its just a way of shining light on their belif, go along with it, but sort it out with yourself later on, there's these Christian guys that come to preach in my building..door-to-door they're very open to questions but as soon as you reply back or ask a question they start quoting their bible,
i just wanted an explaination, not a qoute. *ignore my spelling mishaps*
arrrgggh I hate that, I have muslim friends. I hate the way people look at them when they wear their hijab. I think they are beautiful
I just don't like it when people try to shove their religion down other people's throats. But what I hate just as much as that is when people use their religion as like an excuse for their actions...here I'll explain.
I am open to any and all religions. I believe that if you ignore all the extremists, they all boil down to that same thing: it's something to believe in, and the main principles are to be accepting and nice and compassionate, etc. And that's great.
But.
I have..had...a friend who is Muslim. Again, I'm fine with that. But everytime I get mad at her, she goes on about how people have given her death threats because of her religion. And those people are douches, yes, but that doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to get mad at her or something. Like, if shes mean, shes being mean, I don't care what her religion is, it doesn't excuse that.
It's like if I started being really bitchy to boys all the time, then saying that I'm a girl and we've been oppressed for years. Yes, some races and religions and genders have been oppressed, but that doesn't mean that they can be assholes.
thats right
I know someone who's Muslim and she wears headscarves every day and sometimes she wears Indian-style dresses (I don't know what they're called >.<). She doesn't make any sort of fuss about it at all, in fact I don't think I've even heard her talk about it because we always talk about things that aren't related to it and things that are just everyday conversation.
What really irritates me is when people fight for equality but then try and use thier religion to get them special treatment or preference over other people.
Yeah, that bothers me. I mean, if you want equality, you can't just get the "perks" or whatever. You get ALL of equality.
Like that girl is always talking about how she wants equality, but then expects to have special treatment because she's Middle-Eastern.
I AM NOT RACIST!
that being said - why in canada do Native americans get college paid for, and no taxes, and get paid buy the goverment. I KNOW THAT IN THE 1400s WHITE PEOPLE WHEREN'T VERY NICE! but it's centuries since that happened, and we've all lived here the same length of time now. seriously. Like, if we're going to give them money for what our anestors did to their anestors, why not pay all races for that. Like black people, cause we took em as slaves and abused them. That didnt stop to recently. And how about them Japanesse people, who may have lived here forever, but lost almost everything during the second world war, because "they could be spys?" Or the german people, who came here to escape hilter, and than where put in camps "for saftey reasons?" or, while we're on it. How about he whtie people who've been abused by other races for race crimes! ARG
anyways, thats my rant (bythe way, i am multi race,so i am totally thoughtful of people)
um, I am native. But since my band is not regonized by Canada I do NOT GET ANYTHING. No free tutition, I pay taxes like everyone else and I get racial slurs and hate jokes all the time. We get it because untill the 1960's Native's were forced to learn english, forced into religious church boarding schools and anything connecting to their culture was ripped from them. My own grandmother grew up hating her race because she was forced, it was considered bad to be native. We lost so much tradition, and in the late 60's/eary 70's the government started a redevelopment plan. We still do not have our traditional lands back, we don't have as many rights as the rest of canada.
We fight for our culture, our lands and our people. I do not know anything about my culture because I was not raised on the reserve. Did you know that you need to be on the reserve to get those benifits. You also don't just get it. You must apply for it.
You need papers, birth cert, marriage certs going back at least 7 generations to even apply for it. I know, I am trying right now. You need to prove that your are active in your culture[if you live off reserve]
also as a History major in College, all people that were forced into camps can apply to the canadian government for compensation. Which many have done. Canada has set forth a proper appology to these people and to the governments of both japan and Germany for the treatment of their former citizens.
Canada was not the only country to do so, America, South America, the UK, AUS...everyone turned people away or put them in detention camps. At the time it was the way society reacted to periods of high stress.
also Jas I love you sweetie, just wanted to clear it up
ok, than things are really different here in my town. There's this 1/4 native girl and she makes her self appear more native, and she's getting everything that the other natives get, and doesnt live on the resever (acctutally, she doesnt live anywhere near the resever, she lives in a the apartments near the hospital, which means nothing to you guys) I'm not against some, though i do get mad at some of my native friends when they complain about not getting more money ^^ sorry Michelle
