Well they were all the same until the coming of Jesus, basically. That's where they mainly differ, and the rest of it's just different interpretation

The thing is is that there are religions that were about way before Christinanity. What I haven't said is that I really don't mind what other people believe in but like most people it only annoys me when people shove it in my face but I'm very open minded.

I've been reading about the Japanese religion Shinto, it's a bit like paganism, they make shrines for spirits in the wind, rain etc and I really like the idea of that, it's like fairies Happy

Everyone goes to heaven if they're loved Happy

I dont like the fact that I try to be nice, I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, stab people, or abuse people or animals in any way, and yet according to christianity I'm still going to burn in hell! That's not to say I don't believe in God, its the relentless REPENT NOW/LIVE LIKE US OR SUFFER FOREVER thing, can't we all just try to be the best we can be?

totally agree kirsty

I was in Manchester and I got given this leaflet and when I was on the train home I was reading it and it was like 'You could die at any moment' - not a nice thing to read while on a train! - 'Repent!' and it had two pictures of two men one man's caption was 'oh yes I'll go to heaven' and it said that person wouldn't go to heaven because he was being arrogant or something and the other guy wasn't so sure but was going to try to be good and it said that he would go to heaven. Again if God has the final judgement who are these preachy types to tell us what will happen.

I conmpletely agree! I'm so glad there are a bunch of levelheaded people here! I was really kind of afraid to post this [but to angry to care at the time] because I was afraid people were going to start telling me that that douche was RIGHT and that IWAS going to hell. THis place is totally better than myspace Happy

And that japaese religion sounds really interesting! I've got to check it out sometime!

Some guy got on the tube today and just as it set off, started preaching very loudly to everyone, walking up and down the carriage, flailing his arm around, pointing his finger at people, while telling us all how special we were and just as he got off told us we would all go to hell for not believing in god... charming. It's all fine and well telling us we're special and loved, but not threatening us with hell. Surely, if there is such a wonderful god then he'd be the most forgiving person ever, so it wouldn't matter if we went through life not believing in him.

why are these people mostly in cities?

There is a church near us with a sign outside and they always have different posters, the most recent one is 'JESUS DIED FOR YOU!' I find this threatening!

That's even more silly Cat cause how does that guy know that no one in there believes in god? It may be that a fair few people in there were devout Christians. It's just stupid

"why are these people mostly in cities? "

Believe me, they aren't. I live in the middle of nowhere, and it isn't just one on a subway ride or in the supermarket. There are groups of these people who are outside every walmart in the area (4 here) and put up signs and get loud megaphones. At least once a week. We have at least one or two groups a year on the campus telling all the students they're going to hell. That's fun. Happy

They make just about everyone who isn't a southern baptist very, very defensive.

I'm sure I've seen a programme about these groups! They all stand about with signs, they weren't appreciated! I'm sure the mother said if her daughter touched a boy before marraige she'd go to hell or something!

Well there's Louis Theroux's "The Most Hated Family In America" which is on TV a lot. They go to soldier's funerals and say they're all going to hell for being gay (even if they're not)

I'm not quite sure if thats the family I'm thinking of. But I was watching Tyra [or rather my cousin was and wouldn't let me change the channel] and this family came on, a mother and her three daughters... and they started saying how tyra was a "fag-enabler" and how she was going to hell because she was FRIENDS with gay people.

Then they said that they loved gay people more than anybody, because they are trying to "help" the gay people NOT go to hell.

AND THEN, the thing that got them kicked off the show, they said that EVERYONE that died in the attacks on septermber 11 to the World Trade Centers in USA deserved to DIE because they were all "fags and fag-enablers"....

... ... ... ... ... ... Yup...

I dislike people.... Happy
