Come behind the scenes at Poetic Memory for a #CraftRoomTour and see Erin's craft room and dressing room in New Jersey.

The room gets wonderful sunlight during the day and has a great view of our backyard. Its a lovely space to work in!

Tell us about your space

My crafting room is in the second bedroom of our apartment. I use half of the room for crafting and the other half as a dressing room. My husband also uses a corner to keep some of his tools and other knick knacks. I mostly do my sewing in this room. I love having the big table to keep my sewing machine and serger on!

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

I painted both sets of shelves, added a couple fun rugs and hung up some artwork I've collected and a pennant banner from my wedding on the wall! I also love my lampshade that I covered in crocheted pieces. I try to keep it colorful and my favorite things in view.

How do you keep organized?

I tend to make a mess when I'm working on a project but having a place for everything makes it so much easier to clean up. I use labeled clear bins, boxes, wire bins and even vintage suitcases to store items!

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

Keep items you use frequently easy to get to and be creative with your containers. They don't have to all be the same. I use a vintage suitcase to store all of my sewing patterns and another for excess fabric.

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

I love so many of my vintage items that I have collected and keep in that room like some of my dresses and fabrics! I have some of my creations mixed in- a few skirts I've made are on my clothing rack and a bunch of brooches in with my jewelry.

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

I have several notebooks in my desk that I'll sketch or jot down ideas in.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I have some vintage sewing magazines and books that can be fun to look through! I also often get inspired while out vintage shopping.

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

I would make it larger, add another table to work on and paint the walls a fun color!
