Take a #CraftRoomTour at Speckless and see Heidi's office.
My favorite thing about this space is that everything is organized and has its place, albeit a crowded one. And, it's a space just for me!
Tell us about your space
Because it's so small, I'm not entirely sure if this room was a fourth bedroom or an office space. So, I claimed it as my craft office/storage area. I never crochet or craft here: it's where all my supplies are kept, and where I do all the "business-y" stuff at the computer. All the furniture is either thrifted or handed down, which I like. If none of it matches, it all matches, right?
The dresser drawers are mostly filled with yarn and thread: organized by weight, fiber, color. I covered a tossed-out file cabinet with paint and contact paper, and that holds specialty papers, photo film, and documents. The hutch holds buttons, embroidery thread, books, and crochet sculptures
The office has a medium-sized closet, and it stuffed to the brim with all remaining tools and supplies.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
The walls currently display all my own crochet art. When a piece sells, it inspires me to get working on a new project to fill the empty space. I also have quite a few ceramic bowls, cups, and planters that I use to organize small things around the room. They're pieces that friends or family have made, that I've made, or that have been handed down to me.
How do you keep organized?
I'm a "multi-disciplined" crafter, so my most-used items are out and easily accessible. Lesser-used items (fabric, sewing machine, glues, paints, hoops, drawing supplies, you name it) are all organized in totes and shelves inside the closet.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
Use what you have! Get creative with things around your house to organize supplies. Baskets, bowls, jars, planters, jewelry displays, etc. can all make organizing your items cost effective and more visually interesting.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
My crochet sculptures and wall hangings are all over the place in here, but this is out of a necessity to store them somewhere! I use a couple ceramic bowls I made to organize large crochet hooks and specialty crochet tools.
One of my favorite possessions is my grampa's perpetual calendar -- it still has the marks of his fingers on the buttons. It sits on the corner of my desk where I can see it all the time.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I use the Notes app on my phone to jot down any/all ideas that pop into my head. It's a very long running list and I refer to it every time I feel "stuck." I use Pinterest boards to keep and organize color palettes, stitches, and other inspiration.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Nature: the beach and the forest. Books, Pinterest, movies. I don't really feel like I actively seek out inspiration, it just comes to me when it feels like it.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
I would love to have a big, light-filled space with lots of storage. My dream studio would have a permanent area for my sewing machine, an area for photo shoots, and a spot for a big comfy chair to crochet in.
