Come behind the scenes at Veggie Num Num for a #KitchenTour and see Trudy's kitchen on the Gold Coast in Australia.
My favourite thing about our kitchen is the big double window over the sink. It looks out into the tree tops and lets in so much natural light and breeze. This view is definitely something I'll be keeping when it comes time to renovate.
Tell us about your kitchen?
With two kids and a food blog, our kitchen is a busy space where I spend a good part of my day. We've only just moved into our new home and while the existing kitchen is functional and tidy I can't wait to renovate and pull out all the white melamine!
What have you done to make your kitchen cosy, functional, beautiful or inspiring?
There's a little nook attached to the kitchen where I've got my computer which makes it great from writing and reading recipes while cooking. To keep it cosy and inspiring, the fridge is pasted with pictures of our kids and cats and drawings by our daughter. Plus the shelves are crammed with plants and books and other favourite odds and ends.
How do you keep organized while cooking?
If my kids are involved, which they often are, cooking doesn't tend to be too organised now days. Ideally I like to tidy as I go and have plenty of time to keep things organised while cooking.
Any tips & tricks for organising your pantry, fridge and ingredients?
I buy a lot of my pantry items in bulk so big glass jars are great storage for grains, nuts, seeds, cereals etc. It keeps them visible so I know what I have and when I'm running low. I also like to divide things up onto separate shelves or into big plastic containers. Baking items in one area, cooking oils and spices in another. This helps to keep everything in its place. Making it easier to find what I'm looking for.
Do you do a lot of cooking and what are your favourite dishes to make?
It's seems I'm always cooking, or at least in the kitchen making meals and snacks and in between snacks! I love simple, nourishing food so my favourite dishes are things I can throw together with lots of veggies, nuts seeds and grains. Roast vegetables, salads, soups and noodle dishes are my favourites.
Where do you turn for new recipe ideas?
Pinterest is my number one source of new recipe inspiration. I've also a small stash of favourite recipe books that I go back to time and again.
Do you plan out your recipes for the week or do you like to be spontaneous?
With two kids and a tight budget, weekly menu plans are my best friend! I get to be spontaneous at the end of the week when the fridge is almost empty and I need to come up with something for dinner. Quite often though these can be the best meals!
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make this your dream kitchen?
When we get around to the renovations, I've got a big gas stovetop, luxurious walk in pantry and lots of open shelving for displaying my bits and bobs on the wish list!
