Clear Lacquer

ok I am on a budget and there is project on here I want to do a version of. Can clear fingernail polish be used as a Clear Lacquer over magazine pages?

it absorbs into the paper and makes it look dull. If you have white glue (I've heard ppl here say that) you could water it down and make your own modge podge to do this.
