How did you get started?
The business originated in Hawaii and has gone through many changes to get to the restaurant we are today. I have been with the business since the creation of our current location but was always a satisfied customer in the past.
Where are you located?
We are located in the Irvington neighborhood in NE Portland, OR. We are right behind Peet's coffee at 15th and Broadway.
What are your specialities?
We specialize in great tasting, accessible, vegan comfort food. Whether it's date night, a quick bite for lunch, or a gluten or nut allergy, we have something for everyone. Our longest standing and most well known dish is our Live Nachos. They pay homage to the largely raw menu origins of old BL. We like to keep things fresh and exciting but these have definitely stood the test of time.
What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?
Ah, the most difficult question for any server! I like anything new since I eat almost every meal here but currently my favorite is our Green Curry with coconut tofu. Our Bibimbap is a close runner up and has an amazing variety of flavors.
What's on the stereo?
Anything from french cafe style music to Bonobo or Otis Redding. You may even get some Bowie during lunch.
Where else should we visit in your area?
Natural Selection is my favorite when I want a beautiful upscale dinner. Harvest and Portobello are awesome too. Oh, and Bye 'n Bye for bar food and drink.
Do you host any special events?
We do! We are actually getting ready to host our annual family style Thanksgiving Feast and we were vendors at the 1st annual Portland Vegan Beer and Food Festival a few months ago.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
We are excited to be launching our new website with online food and gift card ordering capabilities coming soon. Also, we hope everyone will check out what we have planned through the holiday season and into the new year.
