It's my friend's wedding on Saturday and I have only tomorrow to get a present for her and her hubby!

My budget is £35 so I'm thinking a wedding hamper would a nice idea (£5 on basket, £30 on stuff to go in it?). I'm great at shopping on a budget and making it looks like loads.

Here are some ideas I have for going in the basket -

    Candles
    Chocolates
    Ann Summers stuff
    Photo album/frame
    Wine
    Bath stuff
    Wine glasses
Sheep/motorcycle (she likes sheep, he likes bikes)
    Love sweets/Hersheys kisses
    Disposable camera (for the honeymoon)
    Pocket bible (both very religious)

Any other ideas? I'm gonna have a look round town and will see what I can get for the price.

This is a football cushion I made for my boyfriend for Christmas: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/middlesbrough-fc-cushion

I don't know if it's the same for baseball but in England, football tshirts are worthless unless they're the real ones, so stencilling a football logo onto a tshirt is a slap in the face. Hence the cushion instead!

Ooh is that one of those stick-on ones? My boyfriend might be going as Tony Stark to Halloween and we wanted to find a light like that to put underneath his shirt. He's either going as Stark or Dexter (from the TV series Dexter)

That sounds AWESOME! I want an Iron Man party =( don't have loads of ideas, you know in Iron Man 2 when he's thrown the big party and the girls are dancing behind him? You could dress up like them or put them up around the walls.

Manabunga, write in any thread you want =) it's all just people looking for advice or someone to talk to, it's a very open community here.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I like the thought of some photo frames. Or maybe just a collection of nice papers and bits, but that could be really expensive and there isn't really anywhere in York for that. Although, I could go back to Bristol, get stuff, then mail it up to her?

I just missed Andy's dad's birthday and his mum's is coming up. For his dad I'm not too worried, I think we're gonna go in together and get something, but I'd like to make something for his mum.

She's into card-making but wondering whether to branch into any other crafts. Any ideas?

Also it depends SO MUCH on what zombie we're looking at. If it's a Romeo zombie you'll be alright if you can hole up somewhere as they move very slowly and get distracted easily, but you have to remember that they are intelligent - think of them like you would wolves. Rage victims run fast but have lost all intelligence. I think for them, the countryside would be the best place to escape to. You can see them coming a mile off and because they're unorganised, chances are it'll be just the one and you can pick them off easily. Also remember that most zombies will be able to get across water, so that isn't always the best idea. Oh and it's helpful if you know what kind of zombie in terms of splatter as well - a rage zombie can infect you by splatter, a Romero zombie cannot.

And to add to Pandora's bit about people being stupid, can we all please remember that once someone has been bitten that's it, you just kill them straight away or they're gonna kill you!

Be VERY careful about where you hide. Hiding in the attic may sound like a good idea, but if they get into the house, you're completely stuck. Same with basement, really. Old war bunkers are probably the best bet, so it's convenient to know where your nearest one is.
Melee weapons mean you have to get up close, but there's no risk of running out of ammo. Also some good biker leathers should help if they do get too close!

I think you mean Argos? Music would be good for us, if we play Rammstein or something people will just go toward the music.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna price everything, I HATE asking for prices and more than once I've walked away from something I wanted because I didn't want to ask the price (if it's too much I'm always embarrassed that I can't afford it, and stall holders always try and haggle with you which makes me panic haha)

Thanks for the advice; because me and Lizzie will be living together next year, we're going to practise setting the stall up in our living room before so we know where everything goes and can get it done quickly and make it look good.

Ooh that's a good idea, although there aren't many alternative clubs in York, and they're all pretty small. I dunno if we'd be able to keep up with something as well; we're at uni so really just want to do this every now and then.

We were thinking for Freshers some cheap stuff, but also some stuff that seems cheap. So like punk-up a jacket and sell it for £15 when maybe it only cost us £5 to do. Stuff like that. We're not in this to make loads of money; if we break even we'll be more than happy.

Well how should we set the stall up? Does anyone know if we'd need special permits to sell food? Do you reckon we'd be able to play music?

I'll probably post stuff I've made up on here first anyway for people to judge. If you go on my Projects you can see the Button Necklace, which I might do some of (pink/purple ones would probably go down well), and I want to stencil some tshirts like I've got on there. Maybe the bottle-cap earrings, seeing as they cost like 30p to make (not including the price of the bottle, but that seems fair.)

Yeah I worked in a charity shop for a day and they threw away anything with a slight hole in it, or any hand-knit stuff (presumably because it hasn't been through safety checks). It's ridiculous! For the very slightly broken stuff, I was trying to explain to them that they could have a section of discounted items that are faulty; more and more people are learning to sew, and it seems such a waste to throw away perfectly good items! I might have to ask around =)

I made hairfalls before, even just with wool it costs maybe £5 and take like an hour to make. You can make them cyber with tubing and that, or goth with lace. I went to Camden last month and my friend wandered off on his own, came back with some dreadfalls he bought for £30. They were JUST wool. I had to tell him what an idiot he was, for a tenner I would have made him some. And stuff like that, we can put them in our hair while we're selling so people see them displayed properly.

I'm kinda punkish mostly, I like studs and animal print and that. We were thinking about getting some cheap jackets and punking them up, studs etc, cause people pay a lot for them when you can make them fairly easily.

Well they'd only be able to trace the uni boards to us through the Facebook page we'll have on it, but if they had a go we could just say we put up flyers and someone must have put them in there. Chances are they won't care!

Lizzie came up with Anti-Skill, we thought it sounded good because if you put the word "anti" in something it sounds rebellious and alternative =P and it's also kinda suggesting that we're against the higher form of skills, if you get me. Like we can do it because we're so goddamn cool =P

We're gonna link our Facebook page to all the York alternative venue pages, stuff like that. And we're gonna see if we can hand out flyers in those places.

Wool hairfalls might be an idea actually - they're piss easy to make and I know they sell for a fortune. And there isn't actually anywhere in York that sells them. Maybe I could make up a few and see how they sell.

The only problem with that is it would have to be really special stuff at a goth festival. The good thing about York is there isn't anything else like it. We'd just be one of many at Whitby. And I think we're going more punk than goth anyway (for people who are supposed to be anti-consumerism, punks sure do spend a lot on studded jackets and the like.)

Might have a look on the website for inspiration though.

Do you reckon it'd be a good idea to do some market research first? Like set up a Facebook and ask people to answer questions on what they'd like to see sold, etc?

We're also thinking about creative ways to advertise. If we're going for a punk/goth market, we want to find some slightly "rebellious" ways of advertising, but not so rebellious we get arrested or something =P so like we have these all round our SU and in all the toilets in uni:

I was messing around earlier and found that they just snap open and shut - there's no special trick. So we could print off A3 ads and just put them around in all the toilets.

Also, curious to see what you think of the name: we're thinking 'Anti-Skill'?

    Haha nice one =P

The thing that sucks most about York is its lack of live music venues. There's pretty much Duchess, Fibbers and Stereo. I'm from Bristol so I'm used to not HUGE bands, but decent enough, like we get Motorhead at the Colston Hall all the time and stuff. And UK Subs are playing York, but it's while I'm at Download, which sucks. Although I might go see them in Leeds.

Haha yeah well we were thinking about discount schemes, like 10% off with a flyer or whatever, but we were thinking to make it more exclusive...but we're also going to set up a Facebook page, so we could say that friends on Facebook get 20% off between 3 - 5pm on the second day or whatever, just to make sure people are paying attention, you know?

I'll have to look into Zeitgeist Zero =P
