I just posted a new thread with an example site I created on FB. It's under the "social" board. Please, feel free to critique or look for anything I missed. Good Luck CW!
In a discussion with Cupcake Warrior and Arty KitKat it was identified that the Terms and Conditions (T&C) of Facebook contesting are quite rigorous and largely being ignored.
Since there are a lot of people using FB for contesting I thought this would be an appropriate place to post a thread. I hope you agree.
You do not have to follow and T&C but failure to do so can get your page shut down completely and immediately.
So, I am posting the T&C here along with some tips on what you "can" do and a demo page I created on FB for you to took at. ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. I think I have this right, but if I've missed anything, lets get it fixed here, K?

T&C: (What FB says....)
E. Promotions
If you use Facebook to communicate about or administer a promotion (such as a contest or sweepstakes), you are responsible for the lawful operation of that promotion, including the official rules, offer terms and eligibility requirements (e.g., age and residency restrictions), and compliance with regulations governing the promotion and all prizes offered in connection with the promotion (e.g., registration and obtaining necessary regulatory approvals). Please note that compliance with these guidelines does not constitute the lawfulness of a promotion. Promotions are subject to many regulations and if you are not certain that your promotion complies with applicable law, please consult with an expert.
i. Promotions on Facebook must be administered within Apps on Facebook.com, either on a Canvas Page or a Page App.
ii. Promotions on Facebook must include the following:
a. A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant.
b. Acknowledgment that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.
c. Disclosure that the participant is providing information to [disclose recipient(s) of information] and not to Facebook.
iii. You must not condition registration or entry upon the user taking any action using any Facebook features or functionality other than liking a Page, checking in to a Place, or connecting to your app. For example, you must not condition registration or entry upon the user liking a Wall post, or commenting or uploading a photo on a Wall.
iv. You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotion’s registration or entry mechanism. For example, the act of liking a Page or checking in to a Place cannot automatically register or enter a promotion participant.
v. You must not use Facebook features or functionality, such as the Like button, as a voting mechanism for a promotion.
vi. You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages.
vii. Definitions:
a. By “administration” we mean the operation of any element of the promotion, such as collecting entries, conducting a drawing, judging entries, or notifying winners.
b. By “communication” we mean promoting, advertising or referencing a promotion in any way on Facebook, e.g., in ads, on a Page, or in a Wall post.

Additionally, unless you are a non-profit agency, 501c3, you must adhere to gambling laws in regards to, "prize, chance and consideration". This means you can not charge people to enter or require them to buy anything. That is gambling. Only non-profits can do that as a raffle.

Here is a site I created as an example. https://www.facebook.com/notarealcontest
Things to note:
1) I would always create a NEW page for the contest only. That way you can promote it like crazy but the context page stays "clean" and with only one post to answer on.
2) It's important to specify in every way possible that FB is not liable.
3) Entrants MUST provide an email outside of FB as it is against T&C to use their messaging to notify winners.
4) You can ask people to "like" your contest page (and your original page, but you may not REQUIRE them to share your page.
5) Under contesting laws in general you should post the contest dates and where you will post the winners name.
Please contact me with any questions. I am doing this as a work exercise as well and have about 20+ years marketing experience. If I don't know the answer, I am motivated to find it.
Good Luck.
Heard you on that Papermoon. The goal is organic, self sustaining gardening. Heirloom seeds are often tastier and when you save the seed, you never have to buy cheap, low grade seeds again. It's a garden thing. There's also the variety. Much more than a typical store seed offering. It's worth it to me!
Careful, my friend. we were just discussing FB rules on using FB for contesting... they are pretty strict. I am working on an interpretation of them for a new discussion thread but basically, you have to have a lot of "FB is not liable" and other restrictions met that you have not done. They will shut you down, without warning, if you do not follow them.
Just an FYI, I just found this out from Arty KitKat last week. I used to do a lot of radio and store promotions so look for a new thread soon. I hope to post the legal way to do it and get some feedback on if it is correct. Here is the link AK posted to the FB T&C: https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php
Oh, Arty, I can't thank you enough for posting that! I was a radio DJ and after 20 years ended up as sales manager over 5 radio stations. I was so depressed and wound up and driven. I did exactly what Susan Caine is saying... took the job to overcome my "weakness". This video was a wonderful affirmation.
Sweet Beccaurus, I eventually found an excellent question to ask yourself if you're struggling with your public presentation. When are you truly relaxed, when you're completely alone, or with people? I"m always surprised when people say they are freaked out by being alone... it's so natural to me.
Watch the video, it's an awesome tool to understanding your true value!
Thanks for the info, Arty KitKat. That is news to me and considering how many people cheat on FB contests, I'm good with that. However, I think there is a way to promote legitimately within these guidelines... gonna muddle it over for a bit. Love a good challenge! (And, I believe in playing by the rules.)
If you need to develop "extrovert" skills, join a local toastmasters club. They are all people learning to be better speakers.
But as far as personal situations, be yourself. Forcing yourself to be someone you are not is incredible stressful and fake. Be pro-active, ignore the social butterfly's and look for someone who may be as shy as you. Just standing quietly next to someone after a quiet hello is a very positive and supportive role. You may find that helping someone else with their shyness by quiet support is an incredibly rewarding experience. =)
It's often been said that the quietest person is usually the one listening hardest and probably has the one comment worth listening too!
1) Start with your current customers. At every "show" give them an "enter to win" opportunity. Email address mandatory. Make sure they know that the email address will not be sold and that they know exactly how many times to expect an email and for what purpose.
2) Do an online giveaway. Everyone who "shares" your page on FB (Must be a PUBLIC post) AND all of their friends who share. "Like" every share so they know they are entered. Most important, GIVE IT AWAY! I am very leery now of online giveaways as they do not usually deliver... Make the gift worth winning. Go back to every "share" and announce the winner with thanks to everyone who entered and maybe a special offer to get them to visit your site again anyway.
3) Create a reason to visit your site every single day. Feature of the day, promotion of the day, even featuring someone else's designs (with their permission) and featuring their business.
4) Make business cards. Even when I was unemployed I had business cards, "Exploring Opportunities" with my contact information. I asked for a job everywhere I went and networked to everyone I knew. It kept me top of mind, even when there was no job.
5) Know your shipping times, weights, and time commitments.
6) Finally, (And with 20 year marketing to draw from that's saying a lot!) Finally, "Always do what you say you will do!" Period. No exceptions.
I'll probably think of more, manage expectation, etc, but I think I've pontificated enough, yes? ;)
I am now... just started yesterday about the same time the Board Posts started working. Coincidence?
Let me know when you've sent it as my spam filter may be hungry that day. Send me a CO&K PM, K?
It sure isn't gravity! haha.
My "girls" just don't deal with strapless. Straps are a must. No straps? Then I have to tuck them into my belly button to hold them in place. ;)
Seriously, instead of straps, I adopt dresses into halters. Get a neck warp bra and you're good to go with lots of support.
Good Luck!
As an aside: (?) Recently I was in the ER twice with stroke related symptoms. All the experts were in a major HUFF about brain tumors, Stroke, Neurological damage... on and on, blah, blah, blah.
My very down to earth regular doctor, noted that I had a sleep study done 7 years ago. I can not wear a CPAP due to some extremely creative night terrors. My doc suggested I get a "sleep appliance" as my symptoms were also indicative of Severe Sleep deprivation. Not just sleep apnea... you won't get the whole symptom list if you "Search" that. But Sleep DEPRIVATION.
I have had my Oral Sleep Device for about a month now. I mention this here because I have eliminated all but one of my medications!!!! (and it's next.) Early menopause, heart palpitations, excess stomach acid, all GONE! And, I've lost 10 pounds without changing my diet!
So, as I depart my soapbox, I only want to say never, ever underestimate the power of serious sleep! Maybe you could get off those medications for good and not have to deal with that callous A$$ ever again.
(taking my exposed profile and exiting now) Just food for thought, K?
Mum.... or at least my mum, has no seeds. I have hunted down Heritage Seeds online and through trusted friends for a few years now. Saving them properly and swapping through a trusted friend it very important. With seed swapping you never have to buy seeds again and they are usually tastier!!!!
It's super nice when someone else is willing to share their treasures and spread the joy!
Hurray!!!! Thanks Craftella and all the other moderators and crime fighters.
