I agree I mentioned this before! Like Paris Hilton and Wags. I was thinking about this before, Wags become business women really but it's a shame that they have to marry a famous, talented, well paid man before getting anywhere on their own and I think a lot of women probably think it would be easy to become famous in a way like that or as a glamour model because it looks glamourous and easy. I hate people who are famous for hardly any reason at all. Women don't seem to be taken seriously when they are in serious careers though because of these peolpe I think. And then there's the fact that women always have this pressure on them to look good, but by other women, most men don't really notice and prefer natural looking women. /rant

As much as my feminist ideals would like to see a female in presidential or vice presidential office, I don't agree with either Hillary's or Palin's political views. I don't like Democrats or Republicans. And I certainly wouldn't vote for McCain just because his VP would be a woman.

Also, kudos on the rant, queen! I agree.

Dis, I heard on Adam Carolla this morning I can't remember the guys last name but his name was Jesse. Anyway, he said if he was president he would make it to where we could vote, none. That would be great!

You can write-in a name instead of voting for one of the candidates, I think.

i had a huge rant going....but I accidentally closed it, so I will compress it because I'm tired and want to go to bed.

I love pin up art, and I am going to get pinup photos of myself done at the end of the year to celebrate my convocation. In my life, I choose to wear my sexy underwear, put on makeup, and style my hair in a mohawk (well for now anyway, it changes bi-monthly), because that is what I choose as "feminism". Any feminist can look sexy and still be a feminist. Society is based around sex, thats a fact, but not only women are objectified, men dress to accentuate their features just as much as any female. I know men who wear makeup because they love it, and they love how it looks. Male models are just as objectified as any pinup art, or any female model for that matter. How many times a day do you turn around and see some ripped guy wearing nothing but undies on the side of the streetcar or bus?

To each their own. You choose your way, I choose mine. I am in a male dominated field and even though i dress like a woman, I am not objectified or treated like anything less than I am. Feminism is not necessarily about how you look, but rather about your own acceptance and belief in who you are. I often find that it just gets simplified into "if you look pretty you're not a feminist" and visa versa. Yah, I'm going to pull on a bunnyhug (hoodie for the rest of you) and bust out a sports bra and sweatpants when I want to, but I'm also going to dress up and wear sexy clothes when I want to too. Acceptance of self, and others, should come before judgement.

I'm a sexy feminist, and I'm ok with that Happy

Yup- I think it's great that you can be sexy, and I'm sure you do it well, with the right frame of mind, but not everyone does- and places like Suicide Girls and modern pin up girls I think, haven't been dealt with properly.

I know men can be objectified too, but this is effectively a man's world in general. As women we need to gain as much respect as we can and I guess I feel that Suicide Girls and modern pin ups make that just a little bit more difficult.

Believe me I definitely don't feel that looking pretty means you're not a feminist- it's great that we look good. As women, we just do look better than men- you can't deny it! I totally believe with you it's about acceptance and belief in who you are, but when i see women like that woman in the snippets article, i feel a bit sad and i worry that images like that makes acceptance and belief of self harder for other people, like my virgin friend, for example.

True enough, and I do agree with you on some modern pinups, although i think some of the ones on deviant art are just incredible. The modern pinup has gone the way of nudity, but I have actually spoken with a suicide girl who refuses to do full nude because of that.

I don't have a problem with Suicide Girls as a whole (except the name) because it isn't just thin girls, and it's a chance for women to look a bit different to have pictures taken. A lot of them are REALLY interesting people as well. But as with any large group of people, there are bound to be a few idiots

Same here, I had a friend do a shoot recently and got on suicide girls. I appreciate that it isnt the norm that gets photographed there, and often the photographs are wonderfully done.

Oh yeah! I love the variety and I guess the concept, I just don't agree with the whole "we are women we are here to be sexy come look at us and lust after us" and yes the name definitely needs to be changed.

although, it did have my aforementioned friend in tears once- she's really flat chested (to the point wherre she's getting a boob job on the NHS soon because it disrupts her life so much) and there's a thin one on there, with no breasts, and on her myspace picture all the comments were like "what's the point of this? where are her tits?" and stuff and she was just distraught when she read it. I realise that wasn't the point of Suicide Girls, it was to appreciate all different kinds of girls- but the type of people it attracts and the type of thing it inadvertently encourages is dangerous and hard on some people.

I agree Roma. This pin up girl stuff seems to be more for women then men though, I don't like being told what to wear or how to wear my make up by anyone though but I think I said it before, these are intellegent women and they have more then just their bodies to show off with, they have a lot of power really.

I always feel like a freak because I have boobs but I have a shadow rather then a clevage!! I'd never really considered them as boobs until they grew to a C cup. I think if a man likes you he'll respect you and fall in love with you for you, not all men are boob men.

That is really too bad about your friend Roma, and people can definitely be cruel for no good reason.

I guess because I'm quite an anachronism, I live in the past [not my own, but the past that help jimi hendrix, janis joplin, tura satana, etc.] I tend to think of Pin up as more of the old ways, where it was sexy and it was fun and it was freeing, because girls had to be covered or they were "sluts", and this was breaking out of that.

I kind of just completely reject today's view of pinup, and by rejecting it, I obviously don't think about it. But when I'm forced to, it is obvoius that it has gone from REJECTING the steroetypes that people wish we were, to BECOMING those things, by being a, sorry of its to straight forward, whore. Happy

But I like living in the past, as well as my own reality, where I can just be who I am, and let others be who they are, and be happy with that. I dislike reality, so I reject it and substitute my own Happy

BUT I actually have wanted to do some suicide girl photoshoots, only because some of them are so creative and funky, and I don't really know many photographers who can be mature AND creative Happy
