I learned the basics from my mom and sister, and the rest I have been learning from the complete book of crochet stitch designs. It's pretty handy for fancy stitches.

So I know this is an old post but, i have a new view...

I "learned" to crochet from my old room mate. She was a terrible teacher that gave me the knowledge of the slip stitch..... and then let me figure it out from there.

I am not sure if anybody has ever tried to "do" a project in slip stitch? This is impossible. I felt like she was playing a cruel joke, but since she was a lazy room mate that never followed through on ANYTHING, I figured this shizz out myself and I must say I feel way more "powerful" now. Like a crochet magician that magically figured it out!

So knitting or crochet, if you are having trouble, take POWER over that beezz kneezz and master it! BAM! Happy Creating! and always remember at the end of the row... to chain 1,2 or 3 for the "first" stitch or number "one" for that next row. (1 for single 2 for half and double and 3 for treble.)

My grandmother taught me when I was 6 or 7,,,, I learned the basics and then started looking for patterns online, I learned new stitches and could make my own patterns. Crocheting is a lot of fun and very relaxing, it's forgiving too - if you ever mess up you just undo a few stitches and can pick back up right where you left off.

I suggest a book with pictures... learn the language of each stitch abbreviation and keep practicing
