knitting needle size help!
I bought some wool today which says UK 5 5/12 US 9, so I went looking through my Grandmas needle collection and found that some were size 12 and thick, others were 12 and thin. I don't know which is UK and which is US :s
help!
Most knitters have like, a card or something with holes in it that fit the needles to tell you what size the needles are, so she might have one somewhere. If not, they're pretty cheap so you can pick one up, or just judge by a gauge swatch.

basically UK larger the number the thinner the needle
and US larger the number the thicker the needle
when we cleared out her house (shes dead) there wasnt anything, and the needles werent in pairs either. I had to save them from being thrown out.
Sainey, based on what you've said, I think I've used the wrong sized needle
thanks for that
