Your first attempt looks much nicer than my first attempt LOL. And your right, I find it a lot easier than knitting too. But I don't know if I will ever understand the patterns!

Can anyone tell me (simply) how to do a second row, then a third? I'm using books and diagrams but I just don't understand :s
I'm finding crochet harder then knitting, although I'm not good at knitting and just started crochet today.

This was the video I used =) >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqca00LdmAc&feature=related
Second row, only hook the one strand, Third and all after that hook both strands of the loop....makes more sense once you've watched the video =)

Kitty - Thanks aha!! I haven't looked at patterns yet, I think I'll just do a few practice squares before trying any actual objects ><

I learned form Teresa on youtube too!! I credit my crocheting skills to her...I tried the knitting thing with needles, so not happening. I could do it, but it takes too much time and I'm just not coordinated with using them.
I knit on my knitting looms though with ease, much easier than needles.

I learned from my grandma too. Then didn't do anything for 20 years.
So, I watch a lot of youtube, over and over and over.

@The Incredible : Knitting you use 2 needles and the work gets transferred from one needle to the other back and forth.
Crochet uses 1 hook and you work continuously on that hook. It's better for making shaped work or 3D work like amigurumi.
The stitches you make look different with knitting and crochet too.

sarah... I have learned to crochet only with youtube... really it's not that hard if you take it slowly.... nobody has ever helped me, so it's possible to learn with just videos and books! hahaha....
look for the videos of tjw1963 in youtube... Teresa is the best crochet teacher! she explains everything step by step... once you know the basic stitches, you can almost do anything Happy

nikki.... did you solve your problem of making the second and third row?? sorry for the so very late response hehe~

no, it still confuses me, i just tend to do stuff until it looks pretty, or granny squares, some of which come out lovely, others are messy :/

I learned the basics from watching youtube vids. And when I felt like I was somewhat experienced, I started checking out crochet books at the library and trying out projects. Happy I remember it was exactly a year ago when I tried crocheting out and my very first amigurumi was hideous! lol But now I can whip up awesome hats and amazing amigurumi! If you keep trying, you'll get crocheting down in no time. Just have patience my dear.

I learned from a site.
http://www.crochetspot.com/
It helped a lot because the site had step by step pics and after i had done the stitch I would just do the stitch over and over again till I knew I had it. I did try to knit but..... well lets just say I will never pick up knitting sticks again. the only knitting I will ever do is loom knitting.
