Destroying a pair of perfectly good jeans
I am going to make a pair of jean awesome again. They will be inspired by one of my favourite bands, goatmill.
Before I launch at them, scissors and teeth bared, Im wondering.. How do I do neat (ish) tears and those things that are like holes, but still with the white thread. If that made any sense. Also, will acrylic paint stain them? and if it will, how do you do realistice blood splatters/ stains.
Sounds like an epic idea!
With regards to the distressing, you might want to mark on where you want your tears to go *before* you get scissor-happy, as things would look a bit neater then. There's a pretty good tutorial on here for slashed skinnies which might be useful - step four has a picture showing the white threads being pulled out with a stitch-picker (you could maybe try using a pin/needle if you don't have one).

I'm pretty sure acrylic does stain fabric, although I'd have thought it would wash out over time. I think I remember someone on another thread on here saying that they iron over the acrylic to seal it, much as you'd do with fabric paint - leave it to dry, pop a clean press cloth (tea towel/bit of old fabric/unwanted tshirt) over the top and iron it (probably on one of the hottest settings, but don't quote me on that one - practise first!). Speaking from very recent experience (I was covered in fake blood a couple of days back as part of my scout group's 'house of the dead' attraction), if you want 'dripping' blood stains you just need to pick a point to start at and squeeze the tube of fake blood onto the fabric, then let it drip downwards - I'd have thought you could do the same with the acrylic. I'm not sure whether it would be too thick to just squeeze it from the tube though, so you might need to mix it with water and put it into a squeezy-top bottle. For splatters you could probably just put the paint onto a paintbrush and flick it at the jeans - you'd get a nice random effect then
Hope this has been at least slightly helpful!
