Scrabble Tile Pendants - Glaze Problems

hi, i do realize that the whole scrabble tile pendant thing is really old - but i just discovered it and figured they are really neat gifts to send back to my family and friends.

anyhow, i bought a huge pack of scrabble tiles and started making a bunch. they all looked great when i put them down to dry (after applying the diamond glaze i mean), however, when i checked later, the glaze had pulled back from the edges and therefore didnt have any neat edges. plus, even though i covered them with a plastic container, there are tiny bits of dusts on the tiles....
so annoying, any tips? or should i just give up on diamond glaze and try resin instead? (or simply buy those epoxy dome stickers from ebay?)

any help would be appreciated!

Try a spray-on glaze that you can use to apply a thin layer of glaze. Anything that you have to paint on by hand is going to create an uneven coat.

If dust settles in the glaze, you may be able to gently sand it off with a very fine sandpaper, then you can apply another layer of glaze.

I use Glossy Accents (equivalent to Diamond Glaze) and I haven't had that problem. Making sure the pieces are on a flat surface will ensure that the layer of glaze will dry at a even level. Also try not using a brush if you painted it on, just apply it first around the edges of the tile then fill in. As far as the dust problem goes, don't see how that could have happened if they were covered unless it was dust in the container that they were covered with.

I have resin too, but haven't yet tried it on my domino/scrabble tiles. I just suggest to be more careful of the set up while they are drying.

hi and thanks for your replies!

i'm gonna try and find a spray-on glaze, maybe that'll do the trick...

@creativemind: i always applied it directly out of the bottle (first dot on a paper because apparently that's where most of the airbubbles are in) and sometimes even let it spread OVER the edges (cause i can file it off later anyway), but still, it keeps pulling back off the edges. i even tried to coat the edges first with a thin layer and a brush and when that is dry to coat the whole tile with the glaze, but nothing does the trick for me... Sad
