fifties style

Hii,

so I've got my 16th birthday coming up, and I'm celebrating it with by best friends b-day too. We decided that we'd theme it: the fifties
but now, I don't really know what to wear, I've googled it, and got quite an idea of the style, but I was wondering how I could create a fifties outfit with regular clothes, if you have any ideas, please tell me.

Pedal pushers and keds. (plain canvas shoes) Put your hair in a pony tail. Something like this:

Great idea Dessah. If I were going to a fifties party I would go in a retro halter dress like below, teamed with flowers and waist belt, oh and ballerina pumps:

Another choice for footwear is ballet flats and ankle socks.

Or you could go more tomboy... wear dark jeans with a deep cuff, black hi-top converse and a black t-shirt with a deck of cards rolled in the sleeve... like the Outsiders.

I love rockabilly looks and have a few original 1950s pieces. But for those who don't do that as their normal styling, I would suggest a circle skirt and a cardigan, handbag and wedge shoes or kitten heals. For a sexier look get a leopard print top and a pencil skirt or fold up a pair of straight leg jeans so that they are cropped like pedal pushers and a long sleeved sweater that fits closely for a more casual look.

Watch The Sandlot...There are a TON of cute outfits you could pull off.
I personally like the sexy pencil skirt look. Happy Don't forget cat-eye glasses!
p.s. It's really easy to make a poodle skirt out of felt, and there are iron on poodles.

i had a fifties party a while ago, i made a red circle skirt with white dots with an old tutu under it as a kind of petticoat, and wore it with a red shirt and a white wide ribbon tied over the bit where the shirt went under the skirt. and i paired it with a pair of white ballerina flats with a small red bow sewn on.
making the skirt was easy, and i already had the red shirt and the white ballerina flats so that was not very hard and a great success, i had one of the best outfits Happy
oh and i put on a thin red hair band.

I think the skirt is too short to properly represent your age in that era. Also I'm thinking the leggins are more 60's/70's. Get a pair of plain white socks and flat shoes. Turn down the top of the socks to your ankle. The tops look good though.

what do you mean by too short to properly represent your age?
I'm not wearing any leggings Tongue i do wear white socks, and I actually don't really have to worry about shoes, because most of the time I'll be wearing bowling shoes (haha looking funny in public) and otherwise I'm in house, so probably just on my socks, I will turn the tops down.
thanks for the tips!

I'd say cuff up a pair of jeans, black jeans will do too. Fold down the white socks, the shoes are ok. And maybe wear the black cardi (3rd from bottom) over the shirt (depends on how warm it is where you are). A skinny belt, if you have it, or no belt is best.

Ditto on the skirt being too short. It should at least cover your knees. Esp. since your turning 16, back then you could only get away with showing that much leg when you were shirly temples age.
