Projects and how to`s
Yes Ruby W., there is a way to search projects, and it's annoying to me too to have the same project posted multiple times but unfortunately ppl don't check before they post. I mentioned that earlier in this board entry, for instance like the plastic yarn or plarn. I was gonna post a how-to for it, actually I did, I thought then to search for it so after I had seen other "how-to's" for it, I deleted mine before it got published.
And yeah, it would tick me off too if I posted something and then someone posted almost the exact same thing and got more favorites for it. It would just be cool if some of us could volunteer to help out with the site, to weed things out like that. Like screen projects waiting to be posted and post them accordingly or not at all if they look fishy. Of course if Cat and Tom would go for the idea.
One other thing, I have projects that I was gonna post, but then someone beat me to it with something similar to what I made. That is my own fault though that I wasn't quick enough or whatever, but I still don't want to post mine as version, so for now, I haven't posted them yet or if I ever will.
I stopped posting a long time ago. Maybe they should have two different sections on the projects page. One for How to's and one's for the hey look what I made.
Haha! Funny Tara, but some of the complaints here is that ppl aren't posting their own work. So sad
I meant how you said you didn't want to post stuff you made because other people beat you to it. LOL
I would be more than happy to help Cat and Tom out if they need it. I'm currently studying web development at university so anything website related would be great to put on my CV if they were willing to be a reference (if needed). Even if it is just approving projects and voluntary
Creativemind ~ I too have started projects and people have beat me to it :p doh! I always search before I do a how-to or creation though, it doesn't take long! Nevermind
I am not trying to be rude at all or point people out. I know its more than this one person that does it, but this is just the first one I found. http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/by/20609 - she had over 2 pages of how tos and creations and not a single picture is hers. I get some people dont have a camrea, but maybe say that and leave a photo credit or simply don't put pictures.
I reported her,I dont know if the button actually works.I know it sounds mean, but I think its not fair to take credit for other peoples projects. This will be haunting me,but I did it because it seems like everyone noticed her projects.
Also I read that the person whos original project is the sweater boots actually sent a message to the person who stole it to delete it or give credit, but she is not responding and the project is still on the site.I really feel bad for her,it must be awful to see someone taking credit for your work...
@Tara, mybad, but hence why I haven't posted anything in awhile.
@Ruby, yeah sux don't it?!
@ T!N@ Yeah, saw that one too, very annoying! Personally though, I hate how-to's without pix unless it's a knit/crochet pattern or something like that.
@ violetta, what she should have done was reported it to Cat or Tom and they will delete it. And it's better to go the contact link at the bottom of the page, though I've never tried the button and had to wonder if it worked or not. BTW, don't feel about reporting it, you're probably not the only one. This site has specific rules and that member broke the most cardinal one, besides that when posting a project it specifically asks you to declare to the fact that the work and anything in it is yours. Not in those exact words, but it's there.
I completely understand where you're coming from.
But, my thing is that when I make something, I don't necessarily take pictures of it. I get into the mindset of getting it done that I don't care to grab for a camera and take a pic every step of the way.
I don't think its fair to say someone didn't make this or that unless you have legit proof they didn't make it. Just because you saw it on another site doesn't mean they aren't the same person. Don't assume, guys, it makes you seem like a buffoon.
And, I don't think its right to compare someone's projects to each other because they could be strong in sewing, but they might suck at shirt recon.
Yeah, true about the getting your facts straight before accusing someone, but these are pretty obvious. And I have made sure of that when I seen something posted here and remember seeing it somewhere else, so I did my research, backtracked and such and fortunately it was the same person. So it's also safe to say that you can't assume that people are pointing fingers without checking if something is legit first.
Ok when the person posted the Beaded Curtain project

I taught it was smelly, but I didnt do or say anything until today.I was going through projects and saw it again. So I Googled "beaded curtain" and it was on the first page of the pictures that came up.Turns out its another "stolen project".Check it out:

Heres where I found it:

I sent Cat a message about it,because I think its not fair on the original creator.
So I did my research.
Unbelievable!from the same person as the beaded curtain the votive candle holder isn't her own work either.

The original (a shop)

I just Googled Votive candle holder. At least she could change the titles. >_<
Well done Violetta!!
I just don't get it though... What do they gain by passing off someone elses work as their own? *Thinks loooong and hard* Maybe get featured? But in the long run what do they get out of that? They can't be proud because it's not their own! Hmmm...
Well I think she wanted to share her idea with everyone, but stealing isn't the right way to do it.
I'd seen the dog treat project before, but I thought maybe it was the same person using 2 different sites to display the same project.
Maybe she's just too young to realize that not crediting people for using their idea is wrong...
