All the hype about <swine flu>

im not scared, and i live in Texas, where there are 20 cases and the first death. I'm going to Mexico, Chihuahua, for my cousins wedding. Seriously, there are less cases in chihuahua than here, yet people are already avoiding me! I haven't even gone yet! I feel really bad for my cousins fiance, i mean she planned this wedding and all of a sudden this happens. Either way, i hope we go to Mexico, its safer there than here in the coastal bend.

oh thank you, it must be hell for her right now, already worried, and then the swine flu. I hope it all ends up good for her and my cousin, and everyone affected by the flu. Plus, i've never been to a wedding.

its just been taken way out of proportion, I'm glad the health services are getting ready for worst case scenario but still.

I'm just thinking of it as a different strain of flu. It doesn't sound any worse than flu its just that a lot of people tend to say they've got flu when its just heavy cold. Flu is pretty crappy if you get it but the large majority of people get over it. Its probably only the vulnerable groups that need to be extra careful like the v young, elderly and those with major health problems already.
I get really cynical sometimes about the news and do wonder some days if these kind of things are hyped up as it takes the spotlight away from the government and political news. Hope that doesn't sound too paranoid :/.

I think it's probably more serious than regular flu if lots of people are dying from it, but it could be people with weaker immune systems that are dying, or they don't have the right sort of healthcare/treatment so they can't fight the virus. Everyone's just like "Omg people are dying" but I'm sure there are other things lots of people die from that don't get as much hype.

well what scares most doctors is that it isn't just effecting the young and the ederly, but healthy people as well.

they have opened clinics here, and everyone who is returing from mexico who feel like they may have it have to go to the clinics. So far no one in Newfoundland has it, or it hasn't been confirmed

yes but the people that died from it died early on from it when I doubt they knew they had it and anyway its still only 13 confirmed deaths from it WORLDWIDE! that's not a big number...there are almost 500 cases worldwide, thats not a big number, you are more likely to be involved in a car accident then get swine flu and if you do get swine flu you know what to look out for.
