the worst thing about being an artist
is thinking that your work is never good enough

thats supposted to be a slide show
I think that most of the times... but then I spend to much time on making it perfect, so it kinda slows me down.
The worst thing about being an artist to me is marketing! Marketing is a nigbhtmare to me, I'm often left clueless when it comes to marketing.
yes, the whoring yourself out, I suck at it. I am also kinda anti social, I hate crowds and can't stand people who think art is stupid
Although I'm not really an artist (my art sucks!!) I can understand the whole perfectionist thing. The Kat Von D piece I posted I can see so many faults in it, however my natural laziness kicks in and says "Oh sod it, I cba. I won't look that much better anyways".
Also I agree with you about marketing. Most of what you guys do are different types of advertising techniques rather than actual marketing, since marketing is made up of so much more than just advertising (I studied it plenty at Uni). But yeah getting the right advertising technique working can be a pain!!
Also I don't get people that think art is stupid, especially the style of art you are into!!
Doing the art is its own reward because the truth is it doesnt matter what others think you do the art for you.
I dont like feeling as if im only understood by other artists. Normals dont seem to understand how deeply we feel things or can completely miss the beauty in something if its not right in your face.
I hated studying art and having to draw or paint at will. Also you have to show 'the process' of creating a piece - so loads of sketches, tries with different materials and all that guff which I hated as art doesn't always work to a formula. Sometimes you create something first off. It doesn't always have to be planned and evidenced. When I did my GCSE piece I finished ahead of schedule so I was encouraged to use the time to work on my planning and do some extra sketches of what I hoped my picture would look like. That really annoyed me as its such b******ks - its not real if you do it afterwards!! When you study art, I personally find that its all about pleasing the exam board and jumping through hoops.
Anyway, end of rant
I loved studing art history. Art is subjective, it depends on the viewer, I think the viewer needs to be opened mined when it comes to art, what is art and the symbolism within
I was thinking the same thing earlier today! That my art isnt good enough. It depresses me all the time.
Thats why i joined DeviantArt, but then never went back. XD lmao ...seeing all those amazing things makes me feel like crap about my own stuff. And im trying to do it as a career, as well as for myself.
I've never tried to market my stuff yet ...but it sounds horrible. From the artwork i've tried to sell, most people only like the stupid shit that is self-explanitory. it makes me mad b/c that stuff has no substance like other things i do. Most people just dont get that art is about the "feeling" behind it not the "prettyness" of it. grrr. >.< Stupid people.
KitKat: I totally understand what ur saying. Studying it is about pleasing the school, and you have no control. I hated it so much. Thats half why i left my university after the first year. I never sketch my work either. lol It's so horrible.
...but yeah, i totally agree with all u guys.
Arty KitKat I can sympathise with you there. People think that it is something we can turn on and off at will. You have to be in the mood and inspired to create something. When studying it you have to be at it all the time, although I miss studying art (I did it at GCSE's too) because now I rarely draw/paint etc and I think my drawing quality has declined for it. Studying Business especially makes me feel very very uncreative.
In my Art final peice I picked a picture of a building (building was the subject for our year) my art teacher came up to me and said, that won't do I don't like it, took it off me and gave me a different picture of the inside of a building to do instead. It really knocked my confidence, which is why I didn't take it up at A-Levels (plus the volume of work in art is nuts!!).
yeah, you can't turn it on at all. you have to be inspired.
check out my tumbr http://meimeidesign.tumblr.com/ I have more of my artistic endavors there
actually you can make studing business creative, maybe focus on advertising? or marketing?
Hmm you can moreso advertising. But on the other spectrum Advertising and Marketing can be used for hard hitting sales and number crunching. Also direct sales and stuff like that, I applied for a job as a Msrketing Assistant to find out it was a scam doing 100% based commission on door-to-door sales. As well as that, in some Marketing perspectives there's also someone doing research too, so it's a very large array of activities.
I suppose maybe in advertising, but I believe it's quite hard to get into NVM
U never have good painted nails !
have you thought about an internship? or applying to magazines? Newspapers in their marketing or advertising sections
