help with art project idea

I have an idea to use found objects(ie Post cards) from abroad to create an art peice.

Its is to be centered on slow communication and relationships, how relationships evolve without direct contact.

Beautiful concept but hard to pull off with strictly found materials. Maybe ask many pairs of lovers to make each-other small postcards but send both cards to you?

I remember a play at the BAC I say where they asked for postcards, train tickets etc' and the actors wove these into 'back stories' for their characters, mentioning them in monologues etc'. It was really fascinating (and of course they often sold double tickets as people wanted to see what would happen to that day's donated items).

Could you adapt that into a visual form? Maybe hinted-at made-up characters?

My sister recently created a piece of sculpture with old fabric from family items and old photos - about how families are 'woven' together. Maybe you could use a connective medium to do with travel or mail (ticker tape? Telephone wire?) to link your items and give a sculptured effect even on a grid.

In terms of postcards...try card collectors fairs, there are often lots of old postcards from abroad there. They come in pretty cheaply if they are a bit dog-eared.
