Come behind the scenes at Nik's Knits for a #KnittingNookTour and see Nicole knitting room in Raleigh, North Carolina.
I love the size. It is actually my master bedroom, and I sleep in one of the smaller rooms in the house. I figured that I don't need a large room to sleep in.
Tell us about your space
I mainly knit in the space, but I also crochet, sew, and make cards. There's also a desk for writing and designing.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
I added a sofa and whatever pictures I see that make me smile. I keep finding decorations with short, inspirational words and phrases to help keep me motivated.
How do you keep your projects, yarn and supplies organized?
I have a difficult time organizing things because I have so much. Most of the yarn is in pink bins on a bookcase. Some of my knitting needle sets are on bookshelves, and single needle sets are in a vase on one of my bookshelves. Knitting reference books are on multiple bookshelves. Card making supplies are in a storage chest with drawers. Fabrics are folded and placed on a table tucked away in a corner.
Any tips & tricks for staying organising and untangled?
Only take out the supplies you're going to use for a particular project, and put them away as soon as you're done. Believe me, I know that this is easier said than done.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
My favorite things are sweaters I've designed. I don't have them on display, however, I do display a miniature sweater that I made to work out some design details before designing the human-sized sweater. I also adore many of the cards that I've made.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I have a Leuchtturm 1917 notebook that I use to jot down ideas for knitting and cards.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Pinterest. Magazines. Movies. Everywhere. Sometimes ideas will hit me while doing some of the most random things.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it your dream stitching space?
I'd wish for (1) custom storage for all of my knitting and crafting supplies, (2) unlimited space to be able to store everything, and (3) an unlimited supply of money to fund all of my crafty dreams.
