Come behind the scenes at A Quilting Life for a #CraftRoomTour and see Sherri's sewing room.
I love the natural light. While this room is smaller than another space I could have chosen for my sewing room, the natural light makes it the best location for my sewing.
Tell us about your space
My sewing room is rather small...just about 100 square feet with an additional 20 square feet of closet space. There are some built in bookshelves that allow me to store supplies and fabric in a pretty organized manner. I have a nice-sized cutting table/work surface in the center of the room that also has a lot of storage included. I have my sewing machine table, an additional table, and a cabinet in the room as well. Finally, I have an ironing board in the room.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
I have painted the walls a soft aqua/mint color that is really relaxing, and I have decorated the walls with mini quilts to keep things cheery.
How do you keep organized?
I try to clean up after every big project. This doesn't always happen, but I'm much more productive when I start with a clean space!
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
I use two filing drawers in my cutting area for storing patterns. I also use baskets and bins in my space to keep like items together. Labeling plastic storage drawers in the closet really helps me find things I'm looking for.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
Lots of my quilts are in the room...and throughout my home to keep me inspired. Some of my favorite possessions are quilts made by my grandmother and great-great grandmother!
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I keep notes in a file folder and in a notebook for project ideas. I also use Pinterest to keep ideas and inspiration photos.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere...from patterns in tiles and home décor to styles in clothing and design.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
I would love to have a little more space...but as I mentioned earlier, I'm not willing to give up the natural light I love in the space I have!
