Tell us about your space
We built our home in 1989, before I started "making art". About 2003, when I got HOOKED on stamping and needed a dedicated space, we knocked a hole in a kitchen wall and hired a contractor to build the studio. It's about 18 x 20 feet. It has 4 sky lights and it has plenty of windows. I love light!
I stand when I create, so we built my island at counter height & added an overhang on one side for a sitting area, if I need to sit.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
The decor is all vintage furniture & drawers. We've collected library card files and lots of other cool drawers. Hunting for them is so fun & it's something we both enjoy. I love the look of all the drawers & I love that they help me organize.
How do you keep organized?
I love containers and drawers! Finding the perfect fit makes me so happy. The first thing I do it toss the packaging when adding new supplies. That doubles or triples storage. It makes a huge impact. I like to clean up after a project, but within 5 minutes of starting the next...the chaos is back.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
I love little containers that keep "like" things together. I like drawer dividers for trinkets and I usually add containers to drawers to help me stay organized.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
Lol...I have nothing on display that I've created. My samples travel to stores with me and lots of the things I make travel to conventions with the Stampers Anonymous booth and the Ranger booth.
My favorite studio "possession" is a library card file that belonged to my mother. I fell in love with that & I think that's what started the drawer addiction!
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I use my iPhone & iPad. Since I always have my phone nearby, I jot down notes & ideas anytime they pop into my head. I delete them if they come to life, to keep the lists manageable. It could be a stamp idea, a saying or a possible stencil design...they all get noted there. I'm in BIG trouble if I lver loose my phone!
Where do you look for inspiration?
I really do believe that inspiration is everywhere. Go outside..look at flowers..look at buildings...pay attention to things around you. I also find inspiration in vintage stuff. We love flea markets & antique stores & for me, they are inspiring. Sometimes it may be the design...or chippy paint color...or rust. All very inspiring.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
I can only think of one thing that would make my studio better...if it had an ocean view! Palm trees...beautiful blue Aruba waters...that would make it PERFECT!
