Come behind the scenes at Houseologie and see Leigh Anne's amazing pegboard and craft room in Charleston, West Virginia.
My favorite thing about this space is that it's ALL MINE! With a husband and three kids in a moderately sized home, individual space is hard to come by. This craft space is actually on one side of our laundry room that wasn't really being used for anything. A close 2nd favorite thing about this room is the pegboard organization! It's so helpful to be able to see a lot of my supplies in an organized and stylish way.
Tell us about your space
This Craft "room" is about 6 foot wide, which was the perfect size for a craft desk but not great for a lot of storage. That's why I decided to go UP with my storage and build in an entire wall of pegboard. The other side of the room is our laundry area that houses our washer and dryer. The whole room is off of our kitchen. The craft desk also serves as my work desk for editing pictures and writing posts for Houseologie. I also do a lot of Cricut craft projects at this sawhorse desk.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
To make this space beautiful and inspiring I kept to my favorite limited color palette, which is black and white with some metallics thrown in. I added a fun tassel garland so that the room isn't too serious and on the right wall I added an art gallery with some of my favorite things. The Golden Gate Bridge, some word art, a "MAKE" marquee and some wood cheese boards to bring in a little texture.
How do you keep organized?
To keep this room organized the pegboard is what I use. It can hold so much and you can get really creative with the items you hang. I'm also using some ornament boxes for hardware and miscellaneous craft supplies. I have a little rolling cart that used to be Coca-Cola red, I gave it a white and gold makeover and it now serves as a printer stand. I use some cork wine bottle holders to store my vinyl rolls in.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
My biggest organizing tip is to think outside the box!! There are so many ways to get organized without losing style. For example, I store my vinyl in cork wine bottle holders and I use wire baskets on the pegboard for yarn or ribbon. Don't limit yourself to items sold as storage, make any container you like work for you!!
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
My favorite possession in this craft room is definitely my Cricut! My husband gifted it to me last Christmas and it has some really amazing capabilities that make DIY and Crafting so easy and fun. Another item I really love in this room is my faux Lucite frame that holds the Golden Gate Bridge print. It's just plexiglass and gold machine screws that I got from the hardware store and screwed together. It adds a little touch of glam to the room and makes me smile when I see it.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I like to think of myself as a minimalist in most things, including my decor style. I keep most of my inspiration on my Mac by using places like Pinterest to organize my ideas. This frees up space in my home and doesn't allow clutter to accumulate. I create style boards pretty often and save those to my desktop as a reminder of the direction I'm going in a room makeover.
Where do you look for inspiration?
When I'm looking for inspiration for new ideas I almost always go to other bloggers. There are some really amazing and creative people blogging these days. Some of my best friends are DIY & Home Decor bloggers like me and they inspire me every day.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
If I had three wishes to make my room the dream craft space it would probably be housed in a little studio by a lake with lots of windows for natural light plus a ton of counter space!!
