A simple craft room wouldn't be enough to contain Mark Montano's creativity so he's got a whole craft house to work in and we head to Los Angeles to have a peek inside it.

I love that it's separate from my main house which was built in 1914. It's a mini replica of the main house so it fits on the property perfectly. This is the first time in my life I could create a space just to create and it's magical. I get to walk through a garden path to get there and since it's about 100 feet away, I really feel like I'm going somewhere special.

Tell us about your space

Had I known how my career would be, I would have made it double the size, but it's about 10' x 12' in size with vaulted ceilings. In this little house I do everything required for my creative life. I film my YouTube videos in there and make everything for my books. I house all of my supplies and a computer so I can watch movies at night when I'm working late. I love it!

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

I painted it bright colors and have two large windows facing my garden. This way when I'm working at my table I have a beautiful view. I also have vaulted ceilings which are like origami. I love how high they are in such a cozy space.

How do you keep organized?

I put everything in clear boxes so I can see what's inside. I also put everything in glass jars and in glass front cabinets. This way I'm forced to be organized! It's helpful when you're creating not to have to try to find things.

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

Labels and clear front boxes that stack. Floor to ceiling shelving. Also, take the time to fold your fabrics and put things back where they belong.

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

Yes, a 1954 Singer sewing machine that my mother gave me when I was 13 years old. I always have it with me. I love it!

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

I have tons of little drawings taped to the wall. I also keep folders filled with magazine photos.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Gosh, almost everywhere! I made a necklace once based on a German painting I saw at the MET in New York and I've created jewelry with just things from nature. I find inspiration everywhere!

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

1. It would be double the size
2. I would have tables set up for sewing and cutting all the time so that I didn't have to move things around.
3. I would have a maid come in every day at 5:30 to tidy up and fold my fabrics and put away my beads!
