We head to Boulder, Colorado to go behind the scenes of The Postman's Knock and tour Lindsey's paper-crafting studio:
I like this space because it's relatively large and it's dedicated entirely to my business.
Tell us about your space
My studio is located in the back of our apartment; it's kind of cool because it has a large window that faces the Rocky Mountain Range, so I can always see the mountains from here. There's also a big, beaten up VW van out back ... which is so quintessentially Boulder. The room doesn't double as anything else, though I do keep our vacuum in my supply closet. Like I said, sometimes my spouse will come in and work with me when he gets home from school, but for the most part I fly solo in the studio! I basically just create work-related projects ... custom illustrations and calligraphy, blog post materials and photos, things like that.
It's funny because this room started off as a spare bedroom with an itty-bitty midcentury modern desk. As the months crept on, I slowly took over the room, until finally we ended up with two huge desks, no bed, and more art supplies than I can count. Even though my spouse is a left-brained engineer, he loves the space as well, so often he'll sit at the glass desk and work on our website while I'm creating calligraphy or illustrations.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
I have to be honest in that save for putting a lot of pieces of artwork on the wall (sort of an interactive portfolio), I haven't done much to the space. When you live in an apartment, there's not a lot of motivation to modify a whole lot ... and we'll only live in this apartment for another year or so.
How do you keep organized?
I am somewhat of a contradiction when it comes to organization. Mentally, I am always super-organized because I use the organization system that I developed. Physically, not so much. Every couple of weeks, my level of disorganization reaches critical mass, and I'm forced to re-organize until the room doesn't look like a tornado blew through it!
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
I love keeping my supplies in vessels that mean something to me; whether it be a mug from a favorite coffee shop, or clay containers my brothers made. I also try to keep consistent with which drawers I put things in.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
All of my creations are on display. :) I love the wedding maps I create, and just general illustrations that I have used for one project or another.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
Easiest question ever: PINTEREST.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Again, I'm going to have to go with Pinterest on this one. :)
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
Hmm ... I think I would make a chalkboard out of one entire wall. Also: a wall of bookshelves for supplies, and a cleaning lady!
