We head to Pittsburgh, PA and go behind the scenes at Just a Girl and Her Blog to tour Abby's craft room.
"It's girly! I live in a house full of boys, so now there is finally a room that is feminine and all mine! All of the storage is pretty great too."
Tell us about your space
My craft room/home office is in the smallest of our townhouse's three bedrooms. I want to say it's about 10' by 13'. We moved our two sons into a shared room last fall, and the leftover room became mine! Yippee! It is my work space as well. I do everything from Silhouette projects to DIY art to party decor to (minimal) sewing in this room.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
Since this was my one shot at a feminine space in my house of boys, I made it 100% my style. It is very light and bright with soothing colors like aqua and lavender. It was important to me to have an organized space with room to store everything; I work much better when everything is in its place!
How do you keep organized?
I use a combination of open shelving with lots of baskets, bins, and other storage vessels. That way, I have easy access to everything, but I don't have "stuff" laying around everywhere since everything has its own spot.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
Label everything! It makes it easy to know where your supplies are at all times. I also make sure that everything has a "home" so that I don't end up with a big pile of random, unorganized supplies.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
I really like my chair-- it was in pretty bad shape when I got it, but I was able to fix it up and make it work in the room. The pegboard was also a trash-to-treasure project that ended up working really well for storage. My favorite crafting tool in the room is probably my Silhouette Cameo, which I use for a large number of my projects.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I have a home binder that I use to plan out my blog editorial calendar and keep notes for future projects.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I read a lot of blogs, I love Pinterest, and I keep a list of thoughts and ideas in my home binder for future reference.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
Well, having someone clean up after me might be nice... ;) Other than that I'd love to invest in some more photography equipment soon to take better pictures of my projects and an endless supply of craft materials wouldn't hurt either!
