When did you first get in to cooking and do you remember the first recipe you tried?
I grew up in an Italian household, so I have been cooking ever since I can remember. The first recipe I ever made was probably a cake recipe with my grandmother. All the women in my family are amazing cooks, and I aspired to be just like them!
Now, I cook primarily vegan (with the exception of organic honey). I've been vegan for over 3 years, and I have my mother to thank for that. She's been vegan for almost 10 years! She definitely inspired me to take a look at what I was putting into my body and to take a look at the factory farming/animal agriculture industry. I'll never look back - it's the healthiest and happiest I've ever been!
What's your kitchen like and how do you keep organized when cooking?
It's bright and (for the most part) tidy. It's not a big kitchen, but it's enough space for me! I have a big window over my sink that lets the light in. It's my favorite room in the house.
I try to keep organized by putting ingredients away and cleaning as I go through a recipe. I can't let things sit out once I use them!
What tips would you give to someone wanting to become a better cook?
Find a style that you are passionate about - whether that is Italian, Mexican, Thai, or vegan/vegetarian. For me, it was a plant-based lifestyle that ultimately led me to love cooking more than anything. Don't be afraid to try new ingredients - YouTube is your friend if you are unsure how to work with an ingredient! I used to buy a new fruit or vegetable each week to learn to appreciate them all.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and what would you cook for them?
This is a tough one! I'd probably invite Ellen Degeneres because she is a vegan, and I just love her so much. She's kind, compassionate, and hilarious. She's everything I love in a person!
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
Aside from blogging, cooking, and baking, I love scrapbooking, photography, and painting. I also love farmer's markets! In the summer, my husband and I try to go as often as possible.
Which cooking blogs do you love to read?
I read a ton of other blogs. My favorites are: In My Bowl, Ohdeardrea, Thug Kitchen, and A Beautiful Mess.
