When did you first get in to cooking and do you remember the first recipe you tried?
I don't remember the first recipe I ever made but I have been cooking since I was very young. Always helping in the kitchen with my dad growing up so I learned a lot of techniques and recipes.
What's your kitchen like and how do you keep organized when cooking?
My kitchen is good-sized with a wonderful island in the center. Everyone thinks I'm crazy to have painted the walls a sunny yellow but I love it! It wakes me up and gives inspiration to cook and bake. I am pretty organized but I do tend to let things get cluttered. When that happens, I take a day and re-organize.
I have to have all of the ingredients out for a recipe before I start cooking or baking.
What tips would you give to someone wanting to become a better cook?
Practice. And more practice. Once you learn the basics of any technique or recipe, you're on your way. You're going to make a bad dish, your bread may not rise correctly, and you may even burn the whole meal. I've done all of those and more...still do at times! You just learn from it.
Before you jump to changing the recipe, make it exactly the way it is written first. You'll be able to see what it is to look like, taste like, etc. Then, be creative and put your own spin on it!
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and what would you cook for them?
Really not good at this type of questions so how's this: I would love to have the hosts of the Food Network's The Kitchen over. They're such a diverse group of chefs and I could learn so much since I'd ask them to cook for me! :)
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I love to read, crochet, and do crafty home decor projects, and nap...naps are good at any age!
Which cooking blogs do you love to read?
Way too many to list! A few include Shugary Sweets, Plain Chicken, and The Pioneer Woman.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I'm honored to have been selected as a Cooking Superstar. I hope you all enjoy my recipes and don't forget to check out my blog - you'll find something for everyone there.
