What is the difference?

I really want to make some keychains out of polymer clay, but, my mom bought me Playdough instead. I know they are not the same, but I was wondering, what is the difference between the two? And, is it at all possible for playdough to harden and dry like polymer clay?
Thank you Happy

The difference between the two is that you have to bake polymer clay to cure it where as Playdough you just leave it out to air dry, but it tends to crack and will even more if its dried too fast. Polymer clay doesn't break or crack easily once it's been hardened and usually doesn't require anything like a coating to hold its shape or stay hard. Play dough, you will have to give it a coating of acrylic or something to keep moisture out so that it won't softened. If you want to use something like Playdough, you can make your own and it's probably better to use for what you want to do with it than the store bought stuff. Here are some recipes here on CO+K for it

or you can try google for others.

As far as polymer clay there are different brands like Fimo, Sculpey (different versions), Premo, Cernit, and Kato Polyclay. People have their own preferences to which ones they like for different reasons.

I love Cernit, because I can boil it so there is no danger of over baking my projects. Happy
