Tray Decorating

I have a eating tray, some sharpies, and a fun idea, but I need a smidge of help.:]

The tray where you put the food is a smooth plastic piece. I want to color it and make soem fun design on it with the sharpies. I want to know if there is a spray or some kind of liquid sealer I can put on it after I finish my design so that if maybe something got spilled onto the tray it wouldnt smudge or wash away.

Any suggestions or ideas? Will the sharpie even stick to the plastic that well?

sharpie sticks to plastic pretty well contact paper the clear kind might work really well but im sure some of these other crafters might know something better
