Hair Bonding Ideas

So I'm trying to make some barrette's using synthetic and real hair. I cant figure out how to bond the hair. The only thing i've gotten to work fairly well is a hot glue gun. I've used hair bonding glue for putting tracks in your hair. And craft glue. With both i tried to blow dry it one time to see if it would dry faster. The other problem is getting enough of the hair to soak through to bond and stay in place. but not look glued.

If anyone has any ideas. They would be much appreciated.
