British Baby Shower on a Budget! HELP!

HELP!

My best friend's baby is due on August 16th, she's having a little girl!

Anyway, she wants a baby shower party, and she has asked me to organise it! I'm VERY excited about the prospect...

BUT, I don't know where to start?

We're going to have it between 2pm and 6pm on a Saturday afternoon, then all the boys will come back the family will go home and we're going to have a BBQ party afterwards Happy

I need ideas for what to do in four hours? invite wording? who to invite? food? cake? presents? traditions? All on a budget please!

EEEEeeee!

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Who to invite: Her friends, a few workmates (if she has a job) maybe a friend who lives far away as a surprise
Cake: Strawberry Cheesecake so it will be a pink cake (in The Netherlands we have these packages: http://www.dutchfoodshop.nl/images/Dr.%20Oetker%20mix%20voor%20kwarktaart%20aardbei.jpg)
Presents: Baby clothing, stuffed animals, I believe there is an How To on a Daiper cake on CO+K

I hope this helps you a bit..

Hey that sounds like a really great party!
Don't forget that opening gifts and just having time to talk is really fun!
Here is a cool website that may help they have printables and a blog with good ideas!

http://www.cutest-baby-shower-ideas.com/index.html

You can also make your own quiz type game such as who knows mommy the best and have all kinds of questions and have everyone answer them. Try some budget friendly bridal shower websites alot of the games and quiz type things are easily changed to baby things.

I did a baby shower for a friend and our center pieces were balloons that we tied to different baby products so that Mommy got extra gifts and they were really cute on the table.

You can also cut straws in half and stick them in the side of a cupcake decorated all pink and cute with a ribbon on the stick and they are really cute baby rattle cupcakes.
Hope that's helpful!

Here is another website I found,

http://www.babyshower101.com/baby_shower_planning.html

The baby bouquet how to's here at CO+K would make cute corsages too for special guests. One flower per special guest it would only be one pack of socks. Check your local dollar store.

Heeey, thanks for the links and ideas Happy I've never been to a baby shower! It's a bit weird to know what to organise!

I found this AMAZING craft store yesterday in the middle of the smallest mall in town, and I got all the stuff I need to make the invitation cards Happy
I'm making a patchwork baby quilt from a jelly roll I picked up yesterday (it's going sooooo well!!) and I'll have enough to make a little cushion too I think. I'm going to make a diaper cake too. My husband and I are buying them their baby monitors for the bedrooms...

so, all I need to do is organise a day, send out the invites, decorate my friends house with pretty girlie things... My mum's business is making cakes, so she's going to make some little cupcakes and I'm going to make pretzel sticks Happy

Is it normal to have favours for the guests to take home? Should I try to get hold of baby pictures of baby's mummy and daddy for a photoboard? I thought I might do a load of finger food for people, hoping that everyone will have had lunch before they come out...

EEEhhh it's making me so nervous!! I kinda failed at organising her hen night/bachelorette party when I was her chief bridesmaid (I suffer from depression and things got bad so I couldn't help much) so I REALLY want this to be amazing!!

xxx
