Market Stalls

Oh yeah York for sure. Maybe you can get tables at a local club or rave. I went to a few in Liverpool and Manchester and they always had tables full of fun trinkets. Might be good for a test?

For freshers have stuff funder a tenner. They love a bargin.

What kinda of questions do you have about planning?? set up etc?

Ooh that's a good idea, although there aren't many alternative clubs in York, and they're all pretty small. I dunno if we'd be able to keep up with something as well; we're at uni so really just want to do this every now and then.

We were thinking for Freshers some cheap stuff, but also some stuff that seems cheap. So like punk-up a jacket and sell it for £15 when maybe it only cost us £5 to do. Stuff like that. We're not in this to make loads of money; if we break even we'll be more than happy.

Well how should we set the stall up? Does anyone know if we'd need special permits to sell food? Do you reckon we'd be able to play music?

I'll probably post stuff I've made up on here first anyway for people to judge. If you go on my Projects you can see the Button Necklace, which I might do some of (pink/purple ones would probably go down well), and I want to stencil some tshirts like I've got on there. Maybe the bottle-cap earrings, seeing as they cost like 30p to make (not including the price of the bottle, but that seems fair.)

Yeah 15 quid would prolly work for them. Can't wait to see what you're cooking up Happy

Using cardboard or the boxes you pack thing in, put them under your table cloth to add height and levels to your stall. If its thing like jewelery, have a mirror. Display is huge, have things for your items to dangle on and make sure everything is priced. Most people hate asking what the prices is and want all the information literally at their finger tips.

I don't know about permits. I suppose it depends what kinda food it is.. best to give the council a quick call on that one maybe... just find out your liabilities are etc.

Music? I've brought music along loads of times. I bought mini speaksers from Asda.. no.. what's the place you walk in and order stuff outta a book and then get in line to pay for it... starts with an A?? anyways. I paid 10pounds on em and they worked wonderful.

I think you mean Argos? Music would be good for us, if we play Rammstein or something people will just go toward the music.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna price everything, I HATE asking for prices and more than once I've walked away from something I wanted because I didn't want to ask the price (if it's too much I'm always embarrassed that I can't afford it, and stall holders always try and haggle with you which makes me panic haha)

Thanks for the advice; because me and Lizzie will be living together next year, we're going to practise setting the stall up in our living room before so we know where everything goes and can get it done quickly and make it look good.

Hi
Make sure you have plenty of change & bags to put stuff in that you have sold. Mark prices up a little so you can allow for hagglers.

See if you can get a collapsable dress rail cos it's easier to see clothes on. You could make large pads from card, wadding & stretchy velvet type material for showing your jewellery. It stops people walking off with it if it's pinned to something (talking from experience here).

Plan the way you load your car up in a way that is easy for you to set up at the other end. Good luck to both of you x
