the look you can create is very different and you only use one hook as opposed to two needles. You can learn to crochet, there's heaps of resources on the internet and Youtube is quite useful too. You can also make amigurumi too(research it to see what I mean) which look very cute.

but i think i rather just get away from the whole needle and yarn thing and find something else to do with yarn

how about yarn dolls? Kierah.</3 has a how-to on CO&K [I]http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/yarn_dolls[I] I use yarn to make my soda tab jewelry... [I]http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/soda_top_accessories[I] You could embroider with it depending on the type of yarn. Basic string for bracelets I love Sugarlises's idea for the hair falls Ooo Take a note book and with a hole punch, punch holes all the way around and then weave the yarn through to make a border. you could play around and make X patterens and stuff. What about needlepoint? Example : [I]http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/needlepoint_nintendo_ds_case[I] Make cute boxes or key chains, bookmarks hmmm i will think of more stuff, but that should give you some ideas so you can brainstorm
