Pleated skirt pattern/how-to?
I want to be Velma Dinkley (from Scooby Doo) for Halloween and since I want to make my costume I need to make a pleated skirt like hers. I am plus sized and an experienced beginner in sewing. Does anyone know of any good online patterns or how-to's? I am having trouble finding any myself! Thanks.
this is the best i could find enjoy

also you might want to try www.burdastyle.com
Pleats always seem to be ironed in, I'd say cut a peice of fabric and fold it in the right places then pin down the pleats and iron them or iron them as you make the folds so they stay, then sew along the top then attach a band to the top. If all else fails try to find a white pleated skirt and dye it orange.

it takes time and it's hard to find a pattern exactly as you'd like but you can adapt a pattern, all it takes is a google search. Make a little doll sized one first.
Yumyum craftster tutorial time!

Thanks everyone! All of these will help me a lot when I start constructing my costume in the next couple of weeks!
your welcome
I've been pleating alot lately, you can actually see my first pleating experience posted on here, on my punk skirt
I find it easiest to work with out a pattern, I am going to be posting a tutorial soon...but here is the gist of what I do.
First I get the amount of fabric, so it can wrap around you at least twice ( I usually go for a little more than twice cause you can always cut it later, but it's harder (not impossible though) to make it bigger.
Then I set up my ironing bored, Iron and get my needles ready.
Lay the fabric flat on the ironing bored, I don't usually measure, the pleats, but about 4 inches in you pant to pinch the fabric up, and fold it over about two inches, then pin that down at the top, and iron it, you want to iron each pleat as you go, because when you pick up the fabric from the ironing bored (and when you have to let it flow off the other side to fit all the fabric) the pins may come out, but you have your ironing marks to fix it with out having to re-pleat it all ( i made this mistake -_-;). To do the next pleat, go about four more inches, pink and fold over until it meets the other pleat (it should make the pleats about 2 inches big) you continue to do that all the way around, then sew it all together. So slowly, and keep checking the pleats as you sew, so they don't fold or come undone during sewing. After sewing all the pleats, you want to check make sure it can go around you with out pulling on the pleats, cut off any excess, keep in mind, seem allowance, at least two inches on each side . Then make a waist band and sew it to the top of the pleats, add a zipper, button, elastic, or drawsting to hold it up, then sew it together, and then sew some seems on the bottom and top so it won't fray and done
I'll be doing a tutorial with picture and everything sometime soon
I hope that made sense!
