Girl Gamers

I'm defiantly not a hardcore gamer, but I do enjoy playing games a few times a week. I have played games since I was 7 or 8, and I enjoyed it because my older brother always played games and I enjoyed watching him play. But I hate it when girls always try to prove something since they are girl gamers, it must be "liberating" or something like that for them, but i play because i enjoy it.

I wouldn't say I was a gamer, but I'm addicted to the Zelda games! I really want the newest one for the DS, especially since I'm going to want to kill some time on my flight to England.... Happy Let's see.... I'll never grow out of Pokemon (YaY platinum comes out in april!), and I just played the heck out of Pokemon ranger. Tee hee. .hack// is fun & I must admit - I played Neopets: The Darkest Faerie - and I loved it!

I don't play a LOT of games, but there are some I find myself addicted to. Sometimes ya just can't help it! Tongue

I have nothing against this whole "girl gamer" thing. The fact of the matter is that statistically there are still more males that play games as opposed to females. Things are changing now its true and more and more females are getting into the gamer scene. Although I think for RPGs players the majority of the population is actually female.

"girl gamer" is really just an old term. I'd call myself a girl gamer and I've been playing for years too, I actually collect old retro consoles. I don't have any female friends who play games either.

It is stupid that girls say they play games to attract boys but that's like any other attention seeking type of behaviour. People who are idiots will attract idiots.

I play a lot of games...Craft a lot of Game stuff and wanna be a Video Game Concept artist.

It all isn't all that new to me. But, usually most people think I am a dood cause of the characters I have played. (I dunno, I usually like my character to be hot bulky man meat so I can stare while I kill people). I am working on a gaming blog with reviews/craft how to's and maybe tournaments going?

Anyone interested? Maybe I could get someone interested in doing the same.

I consider myself a very avid gamer only because that's pretty much all I do and I have a lot of knowledge about them, I just don't flaunt it around all the time.

Maybe people are just confusing the casual gamers with the hardcore ones. I mean, there's a big difference between the two. Then again, a lot of girls are only playing games for attracting guys, which can be irritating, but in the end the guy will finally realize they have no idea what they're talking about.

In fact, for some reason WOW has become this weird fad where I live. I personally don't play the game for many reasons, but its kinda annoying when a girl is going around saying, "like omg I am totally a WOW nerd" (actual quote from a chick -.-) and yet they don't know what a raid is (actual situation), and I'm sitting there thinking, 'really??? I don't even play WOW and I know what a raid is.' But eh, chicks like that humor me from time to time. Happy

That is kinda funny. I've wanted to play WoW for a while, but I don't have enough space on my computer for the download . . . I seriously need a new computer. So, I'm sticking with my Runescape account. (Which is awesome, by the way. . Its SO much better when you're a member. The graphics aren't the greatest, but I love quests and such, and my combat level is actually finally advancing soooo.. . yeah, random chat over.) Happy

Pfffft Girl Gamers.
None of the chicks where I live have the balls to even fake gamerism.
Ill admit I am a bit of a pokemon nerd, but Im a genuine fan and have been as long as I remember.
I love games like the old Spyro & Crash. Also Tekken. I remeber the first time I beat my dad. I was about 8.
I dont know if anyone has seen it (I think Its only shown in Australia) but theres a show called 'Good Game Spawn Point' and my bro and dad watch it, so I see a lot of it.. and the main chick on there, Hex, is such a try hard.. I mean they all are on that show.. but she's your typical blonde slut, with her nose peirced, fake tan blah blah blah and she pisses me off. My friend (guy) was watching it at school the other day on his lap top and I was full on swearing at her and he was like.. shut up shes hot.. and I just laughed at him.

Im a girl and a gamer, therefore Im a girl gamer. I have never played nintendogs I only spent short while on the SIMS and have never played a tycoon game. I love rhythem games (especially Elite beat agents and DJ MAX) and FPS, but I have also spent over 200 hours playing Monster hunter Freedom on my PSP,

Me and my boyfriend have over 20 (probably 30) consoles between us (most are his, granted, but that doesnt mean I dont play them) and I have more game emulators on my computer than Id care to imagine. I think all things considering, that doesnt just make me a gamer, it takes me into the realm of SUPER NERD!

...and you know what, Im okay with that.

In real life it gets me no other attention than if I were a guy gamer, I think thats because I have more balls than most men around here they just expect me to play games. On XBL though, different story.

I play some "girl games" I've always LOVED the Sims ever since it first came out. I've gotten every expansion I serisously couldn't live without it. hahaha but I also like "boy" games. I love first person shooter games like HALO or Gunz hahaha I used to play Flyff which is (don't kill me for saying this) like WoW in the sense that you make a character choose their job or type like magician or fighter and play them in a world online with thousands of other people but I HATE playing as a girl for the simple reason of getting guy "stalkers". It always happens to me that if people know I'm a girl on the other end they get weird or they start sending messages to me. One time I had been playing an online game with the same guy (who I don't know) for almost a year and our characters were both in the same guild so we were a team and during one online convo during a quest he found out I was a girl and he was all clingy and started treating me differently then when he thought I was a boy.

So I'm opposite of what you were describing in your inital post. I play as a boy so I DON'T get thousands of 14 year old boys cyber stanlking me ^^

I am a girl gamer but I've never heard of anyone doing it for attention. For me I just love playing games. One of my guy friends let me play Zelda OoT and since then I've loved games. No one ever thought that it was weird. In fact I used to hang out with one of my first friends for hours just playing Donkey Kong, or Pokemon, or Super Smash Bros.

I'm mostly a computer gamer, my parents never allowed me to have a console (when I turned 16 they gave my BROTHERS a Wii, and that is the extent of my videogame knowledge)
I suck at videogames such as the type that occur on TV with a remote control.

I can't say I'm 'skilled' in computer games, my favorites being MMORPGS, but I do greatly enjoy them.
Sometimes when I play with my friends they yell at me for "not placing the stat in the right place" and whatnot.
I prefer to just play and learn things for myself, it ends up being my own gaming experience as opposed to a character that I control created within the guidelines of some game. If I mess up a character too much, and I don't like it, then I start all over again, it's that simple.

My greatest curiosity when it comes to gaming, particularly observed in a game I used to play several years ago: Maplestory.

First off, I hated this game from the beginning. I played it in total for about a year and a half (with tons of breaks) because my friends forced me to, and they're not the type to try something different. I don't know, just something about the game that is just so... blegh. Also, I just NEED 3 DIMENSIONS TO LIIIIIVEEE. 2D is just not exciting Happy

My observation is that LOADS of guys love MAKING FEMALE CHARACTERS JUST FOR THE LULZ. I do not understand this phenomenon. I asked several of them WHY they do it, and they answer with generalities such as "just wanted to try it out" or "I was wondering if any dudes would hit on me".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but girls don't usually do this. Why do you think that is, and why do you think guys REALLY have the urge to make female characters.

My personal belief is that they have some sort of secret reason for it, but I can't quite figure it out.

One guy said he always played as a girl because other players would take it easy on him BUT I found that guys tend to gang up on girl characters so that they can say "Yeah, this is a man's game. I showed her" it's like they get threatened that girls can be equal or better to them so they have to challenge them right away.

Any girl gamers a fan of Grand Theft Auto?

I play lots of games... Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Scrabble, World of Warcraft, Looking forward to Diablo 3... and I hope my friend will let me play Starcraft 2 on his pc...

And Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, Ars Magica....

Then again, I think I don't fall under the typical "girl gamer" group. ;)

Masha - my best friend (male) does the same thing: "You didn't put the stat in the right place? Why did you do that combination? etc"

And it doesn't matter what game we're in- WoW, D&D, Magic the Gathering, etc.

But instead of it being for laughs, he creates female characters in WoW because if he's going to be staring at a character's rear for over 200 hours, he'd rather stare at a girl's behind.
