Girl Gamers

The internet has a wider variety of idiots than any medium previously concieved by mankind. It's fabulous.

I think it's funny how girls are so proud of that in the first place, like it's rare to be a female who plays games. Every girl I know plays games. I have to admit though, I do own Nintendogs. But I only played it for like a week and then I was sick of talking to my DS, talk about embarassing.

yeah, the thing that bothers me about it the most is that any time anyone finds out I play games myself, its "oh what, you think its cool?"

I've had some pretty nasty messages on Myspace from guys who literally give me abuse because I play games, to them its because I want attention etc despite playing games regularly since I was 6 >_<

it just annoys me how its seen as a completely different thing from guy gamers, but I don't want to start some sort of female revolution or fight for equal rights or some crap like that, god I see enough girls try that too. "rise against the man!" ROFL...*dies*

I know, the girl revolution stuff gets on my nerves too. I like when guys carry the heavy stuff for me cause then I don't have to! We should relax and let our girlyness work for us, lol. I like the differences between men and women, that's what makes us need each other. Just because I can do anything a guy can do doesn't mean I want to! I've seen girls get mad at guys for opening the door for them! No wonder guys are so confused. Anyway, I've gone off topic.

The thing that gets me is that the "girl revolution thing" is just another mechanism of telling girls how they should or should not act. Just because the people telling them what to do are "cool trendsetters" rather than society's traditions doesn't make it any better. People should feel free to act how they feel that they should, rather than all these ideas of what you should do coming from above.

Bah. All that stuff is annoying - just like the token boys-doing-ballet stories they always have on Newsround...

There are big differences in who plays what games according to age, geographic location and, of course, gender. Girls will be inclined to play creative/lifestyle games whereas boys will tend to go for the first-person-shooter blow-things-up type applications.

I'm currently working on models for Barbie Meets Mega Armagedon Death, which should appeal to both sexes - and thus make me a fortune

I have to say that playing games does not a "gamer" make, male or female.

I've played video game since the early 90s when we got our first Nintendo, yet I am not gamer.

A gamer is serious about video games and thinks about them when they are not actively playing.

I play the Sims II and Zoo Tycoon, and played Sims for PS2. I had a subscription to Puzzle Pirates for a while.

The thing is that I don't make time to play my games. I use the games to fill in when I have nothing else going on. That is why I am not a gamer girl, just a girl who plays games.

I was automatically labeled a lesbian at my school when they found out I played games a lot, it didn't bother me or anything, but it's a bit sad when people automatically assume games are just for guys

I've gamed since what? 6th grade on the first Nintendo I begged for for a year. To me it's fun and another thing to talk about when you are with friends. It's nice to be able to say "Holy s--t, can ANYONE get past level 9?" and have everyone erupt in stories about it.

Zootm is right, it's just another vehicle telling people what gender roles are appropriate.
I know! why don't we just do what we like. That sounds like a grand idea.

I remember my first nintendo and blowing on the catrige when it didn't work, the orange nintendo duck hunt gun, playing sonic on the sega master system when I was 7or 8, The first time I beat my step brother in tekken 3 on the first generation play stations. I remember finishing my first xbox 360 game (it wasn't easy I couldn't change camera angles).

I got a nintendo DS its pink and I play girly games but I have always sort of been a gamer and I often kick my fiancee at the xbox360. The cutesy nintendo stuff balances out the enraged blood thirsty warmonger I turn in to when the XBOX is on

I love playing video games My brothers and I play them everyday for hours lol.
Got a playstation when I was like 9 and the first games I played were dig dug and pac man and eventually we became obsessed with the tekken series. Lara Croft from Tomb Raider was my idol for like ever! lol. All the women in my family play games too, my mom kicks my butt at pac man!

I think Nintendo were aiming for a very wide audience with the DS not just hardcore gamers but young kids and older people. I don't buy stuff like Nintendogs because I have a real dog and know I'd get bored of a Nintendog, I did try Harvest Moon though because I was won over by the pretty advert, it was actually the only reason why i got a ds. It was sooo boring I prefer the games I have no like Zelda

I had a playstation the first one thats now called playstation x or something and I had gameboys but I play those games for entertainment and a cure for boredom, I'd rather read a book. Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii is absolutly amazing though.
