Howd u meet ur mate?
I am rather unlucky in love/relationships it seems. Lol so I thought this might help & be cool discussion...
How did you meet your spouse/partner/boyfriend/girlfriend?
(Add how long you've been together too!)
Stories & mushiness welcome. Haha
That is awesome Geni, really cute. I'm unlucky in love too. Probably because I fall in love too much and I am too shy/scared/stupid wayyy to much.
I met my boyfriend 16 years ago at uni. I was trying to set up a alternative music society and he was on my course in the year below. He saw me in the psychology labs pinning up posters asking people to sign up and we got talking. I saw him a few days later while in the computer labs and he was on the computer next to me. Its very geeky but we were both studying Cognitive Science (Artificial Intelligence) and I was doing some coursework with writing a computer programme to simulate a decision making process of deciding what to drink and he asked me if I wanted to do it in person and we went down the the uni bar for a drink. I had my finals so didn't start seeing each other properly till about a month or two later but we're still geeky and very much in love
We'd both had lots of crappy experience up to meeting each other so don't give up on love. The cliche of meeting someone when you least expect it was spot on for me. I wasn't interested in having a boyfriend at all. I just wanted to get to finish my degree and get through my finals.
He's also a fellow crafter and has his own ceramics studio. Needless to say our flat is very cluttered and full of half finished project ;) but I think the secret is finding someone who shares your passions and values. The buzz you get when you first start dating fades but if you have shared loves you never run out of things to talk about or do together.
Here's us together now

And this is us when we first started seeing each other Pat's got a bit of a black eye because he'd had his kung fu grading a couple of days before.
I met my boyfriend in June 2011 at work. He was the new guy and really shy but I thought he was really cute. We only started speaking in October of that year and immediately became really close friends, I was at his house every day of the week. Everyone always asked what was going on between us but I didn't know he liked me and he didn't know I liked him so it was really cute and innocent. Then last year February, I went away on holiday for two weeks and got drunk with some of my friends and ended up telling him over text that I really liked him and then he said he liked me too. When I got back from holiday we went through this stage of about a month where we didn't know if we were dating or not because he never officially asked me but we were basically a couple, then he asked me out in April. We have been together for a year and a month now and I love him to bits.
Here's a pic of us a few weeks ago.
My fiance and I actually met through mutual friends in World of Warcraft back in 2007. We started talking to each other for about 14 hours a day, and after a month I asked him if he'd be my boyfriend and he said yes. In May 2008 we met for the first time and started to take turns visiting each other. In December of 2010, we got engaged for our 3 year anniversary and he helped me pack up my car and we moved into an apartment in South Dakota together (he's from Minnesota and I'm from Pennsylvania). Our 6th anniversary is this year. No plans of marriage just yet but we do know it's going to happen eventually. No kids, which is great for both of us because we're in school and want to focus on school and careers first.
It's been the best relationship I've had. We still go on dates from time to time, and always do something special for our anniversaries and each other's birthday.
I met my hubby at a mutual friends party, I thought his friend was cute but he was trying to get my cousins attention, so he steered me towards James. We hung out all night until long after the party. He left with friends but came back almost immediately with some lame excuse that I later found out was made up so he could keep hanging out with me. We dated for about 6 mo the then broke up for a bit, because of something dumb and I was still in high school.
He joined the army and went to training and when he came back we started dating again, 4 months later we were engaged. We were both 19 and the about 9 months after that we got married, August 3rd 2007! We have moved all across the USA and are now out of the army and living in my hometown. He's going to school for his degree to teach history and I'm working until he is done with school and I can start lol. We completed our little family (for now) with our 2nd beautiful English Springer Spaniel this last January.
We've been through a lot in the last 5 ( now almost 6) years, he was deployed to Iraq, and almost called it quits, but went to counseling instead. I really feel like we are doing great together and love my little family I'm glad we've stuck it out and that he has become my best friend in the whole world.
my husband Jake and I met in 2009 at a music hall/pub that had live rock/metal bands weekly.
I had recently, only weeks prior moved to the Ft. Bragg area to take a surgical assisting job in a veterinary hospital and he was stationed here just that prior December in 08'.
I decided to go out one night to a show and relax and when I called and heard the bands names that were playing, I decided that they sounded interesting. Little did I know that Jake's band was playing that night as he was a bassist as well as backup vocals in one. (he is a really great musician.)
I remember him coming up to my left at the stage and shyly fumbling with his set list and trying to get me to notice him and speak to him. I remember laughing to myself and smirking and asking him what the list was. That led to him telling me he was in the next band coming up and I told him that I would watch and cheer for him if he was good.
We talked after the show, and then 2 weeks later I came to his other show and that was in June. He texted me the day of the show to make sure that I was coming. I had just got back in town as well.
I went to the show, and we were pretty inseparable. It was always like he and I left off where we began in another life.
We started dating basically that night and he deployed in August which was his/our first deployment. A few months after he returned it was our one year anniversary. He asked me to marry him on a pier at the beach after a lovely weekend away in Wilmington for our anniversary.
We were married on Halloween and had a victorian goth wedding that was elemental/wiccan in some parts. It was perfect.
Now 2 deployments later and almost 4 years together...........he is still and always will be my very best friend and soul mate.
thank you for asking Ashley! It is wonderful to share such lovely stories!

below is one of our military couple photo's that we took earlier in the year. <3 <3 <3
This is such a nice thread and I love reading other peoples stories
It is lovely reading people's stories and seeing everyones photos. Ashley- I just wanted to offer you some singleton solidarity, don't worry you're not the only person not coupled up!
Awwww all these cute stories & pictures made me all warm&fuzzy inside! i read them all. made me happier & gives me hope. Thanks guys! Your all so lucky, & have great partners.
Sounds like I need to take some classes, party, or talk to hot musicians more often like you guys! Haha
@plan b, I have the same problem. It's extrememly hard for me to meet/find anyone from anxiety, & when I do I fall too fast & screw it up. So your not alone!
@Libby, good to know! Lol Almost all the people I know in real life & online are married or together , so I feel really bummed & alone a lot. But this thread made me feel better.
I'd had a real lack of boyfriends before meeting Pat and really thought I was going to become a crazy cat lady and be on my own. I think what I've learnt over the years is that you are at your most attractive when you are doing something you love so find somewhere that does a class in something you're interested in and that will hopefully have some men doing. I'm glad looking back that I did Cognitive Science and not Psychology as we had a lot of lectures together and the Psychology course was almost entirely female
Nothing wrong with being a crazy cat lady!
I'm a lot happier with a cat on my lap and a crochet hook in my hand than I have been in past relationships!
Lol I'd be very happy with cats but would like cats and bf
