New Kitten!

So my parents have given up and are letting me get a kitten which I'm so excited about =)

However, I have never had a cat before; the only pets I've had were hamsters and fish haha. I want some advice on how to introduce the kitten to the house, but I can only find things on how to introduce them to other cats. I mean, I read something about how you should keep them in the same room with their food, litter tray and bed but it varies from one night to a few weeks. I guess it depends on how old they are? I dunno!

I just want to make sure I do this right =)

well, we always let our kitties have free rein of the house, the food and litter were in one room. Believe me kitties know where the litter is

The problem is we have a house alarm so the kitten can't roam around the house at night, we have to lock him in one room. It looks like it's gonna have to be the utility room which I'm not totally happy about, but it's the only room downstairs which doesn't set off the alarm. I want to keep him in my room but I can't have the litter tray in there

well, have a radio in there(so there is noise) make a nice soft bed, like put a blanket in a box. Cats love boxes. Give him some toys to play with. and another good Idea,

wrap a small clock(it has to tick) in a soft blanket and place it in his bed. Also a hot water bottle is a good idea.

The clock sounds like the moms heart and the hot water bottle reminds him of his family.

i was allways told as soon as you bring the kittie home to put him in the litter box
that way they know where it is then i would just let him roam around the house a litttle but that hot water bottle idea is great
are you going to make a little kitty bed for him if so you could put some kitty nip inside so he loves the smell of his bed

Thanks for the website! And that advice sounds good =) is it better to buy a bed or just have a blanket in a box?

I read some stuff online that said you should keep them in one room till they know where their litter box, food and bed are, then let them explore the house slowly and follow them.

Hehe I will when I choose it.

We're going to visit this RSPCA place tomorrow, but the other place we're visiting only has cats a year old, so we may be getting a cat instead of a kitten. We'll see

do you have any idea what kinda kitty you want
they are all so cute especially those long haird fluffy ones but boy do they shed i recomend short hair especially if you wear alot of black Happy
unless you get a black kitty Happy that may just work !

I'm gonna get a short-haired one. I want either a black and white one, a tabby, a ginger one or a bengal (but I doubt that last one sometime)

If it starts to scratch about in your shoe MOVE IT TO THE LITTER TRAY QUICK! When my mate got a kitten we went round to see it and I said 'aaaw look how cute she is scratching in my shoe' Friend: 'er.. that means she needs the toilet!' no wee wees in my shoe though, luckily. I wish I wasn't allergic, I don't like the way cats always think you're up to something though and never come to you straight away! I think I'm gonna pester my mum for a new pet, I'll get my way in the end mwwaaahahahahaha

You'll need a lot of boxes he/she will chew chew cheeew. Also get him/her chipped and steal his/her manhood/womanhood!
