Gothic room ideas?

So I'm going to be moving into a small home in a few months (1 of everything haha one bed, bath, open kitchen and living area). Effecting except for the bedroom is downstairs and for the downstair area, I already know i want to keep it lint and airy (so I'm doing greens and whites and all that jazz), but I want the bedroom upstairs to be something more gothic. But when i try to find inspiration online, it's usually very...black haha I'm not really digign' a black room. Theres a large mirror in the room with an antique wooden frame around it that's a rich, dark brow with purple tones (which I LOVE and am staining other wooden pieces a darker brown colour to match it). I really like deep rich purples, but I want an accent wall too :/ but I cant figure what colour :o I was wondering if anyone on here might have some ideas :p I was joking about a kinda pirate room (rich wooden pieces and dark colours) or even a steam punk room. I just don't like the idea of having a black room, because, to me, it just might make this room (which already isn't huge) seem smaller.

haha :p It's so hard to find! I don't want a black room or something overly dark. Me and my friend were throwing around the idea of a sort of gypsy room (and I could combine elements from all the things I love sort of), and then my gma and sister in law said "You need to stick with one theme, kid :/" so I just decided "eclectic" is my theme haha but I really like Victorian gothic-y steampunk boho sorta looks haha
It's so funny because the kitchen and living room and bathroom are going to be so light and crisp and clean looking and then you walk upstairs and it's like...where am I? O_o
At least...that's how it is in my head, haha :p

Hey! I found some gothic fabrics patterns on google that I liked Uploaded with ImageShack.us you don't have to paint your walls black to make a gothic atmosphere, I think painting them black would be creepy. The classic option would be for you to use lace, velvet and satin fabrics (maybe a wallpapper?) You can play with that wooden mirror you said you have, your bed pillows also or your bed cover could be something gothic. I loved the gothic lampshade on the picture . You can buy a simple one and try to transform it yourself

I think my room works for what you're looking for. It's a deep purple with gray and lots of crisp black elements but color at the same time on my wall as art.

not excatly gothic but whatever: you could have red paint dripping down like blood from where the wall meets the ceiling. I like the idea of prints more than plain black walls. I think it'd be way to dark unless you have really great lighting fixtures

Buy cheap lamp shades and hot glue gun on balck lace.

Rather than black walls, maybe consider a light purple that will accent the purple tones in the mirror's frame?

If you need some kind of cloth or fabric for decoration, Dollar Tree has something called "Creepy Cloth" during Halloween and it looks really cool.

If your bed doesn't have very high posts, you could make a canopy to hang above it. Check out "hanging bed canopy" on Google images Happy

If you want dark but gypsy/boho/eclectic, maybe a few colored lanterns, like this? http://reigninggifts.com/LanternLighting.htm Some sheer, jewel-toned scarves/saris/drapy-thingies might be pretty, draped over furniture (just don't drape over lamps...Fire hazard!)....Hmm...Oh! You mentioned Victorian. The Victorians did experiment with Oriental themes in their decor, so maybe some paper fans or room dividers? Those might go with the bohemian vibe. Oh, and you can't do wrong with dried red roses! Dead roses look good in *any* setting. Tongue

There's my 2 cents...Hope I helped a bit. Happy

Hello Darling,

I have been going through the same problem for my room as well. Im not able to paint my walls and I have a small budget so I've been using DIY ideas and inexspensive alternatives to furniture. Here are my ideas!
I would go shopping at thrift stores or fun antique stores to find your vintage gothic staples. For a no-sew curtain, I found a long sheer red fabric and draped it over my window. In antique stores and tag sales, vintage paintings could accent your room in a dramatic way. I bought some roses, dried them and put them in a vase for a gothic feel to it. For furniture, wooden peices make a very good steampunk decor. You said you liked a deep purple for your room: I think a gold and purple color theme would give your room a vintage royal feel to it. Old books on a wooden bookshelf is a nice gothic feel to it as well.
Hope I helped!xoxo
