Making split leg jeans

I have been crazed about making split leg jeans like this:

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=black+and+white+split+leg+jeans&um=1&hl=en&safe=active&sa=N&biw=1360&bih=538&tbm=isch&tbnid=SbmpNmLbtUg2HM:&imgrefurl=http://coolspotters.com/clothing/trip-black-and-white-split-leg-skinny-jeans&docid=6hr5-mMroYHQSM&imgurl=http://www3.images.coolspotters.com/photos/818725/trip-black-and-white-split-leg-skinny-jeans-profile.jpg&w=203&h=300&ei=Ha9rT6asGqLP0QX808y3Bg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=476&vpy=185&dur=994&hovh=240&hovw=162&tx=87&ty=189&sig=114161592981375295585&page=1&tbnh=166&tbnw=116&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0

But instead I want to make the jeans blue and black. I have never dyed any item of clothing before and I was wondering a couple of things:

1) Should I try and get dark blue jeans and dye one side black? and will that come out well?

or

2) Should I just buy white jeans and dye one side black and dye the other side dark blue?

I'd probably buy two pairs of jeans that are the same but are different colors and then seam rip down the rise and across the waist band and then sew them two sides you want back together. You can do that twice and have 2 pairs of jeans!

I agree with PinkWeeds. Maybe I'm just wary of dying, but I think that dying would be far messier and the lines wouldn't be as neat and defined as if you were to just get the two pairs and do some snipping and sewing. Maybe go into it with a friend - each buy one pair in different colours, then you can each get a pair of the split jeans!

I've wanted these jeans too!!! I'm dying for the black & red ones.

I was also going to make my own, the same way pink weeds said. Sewing 2 jeans together ...then you'd have 2 pairs of split jeans. But i've yet to find jeans in those colors that fit me.

Dying's a pretty good idea... just follow directions. You might have to re-dye them overtime tho.
If you want bright blue color, buy white jeans. If u want regular blue-jean color, buy regular jeans.

I'm gonna try to find white jeans now, to make mine to dye. Thanks for the idea.
