Learn how-to make a Flat White, Ice Capp and Kalita Wave Pour Over in #ABiteToEat with Boomtown Coffee in Houston, Texas.

How did you get started?

We opened our first coffee shop in 2012 in the Houston Heights, serving our house-roasted, small batch coffee. Boomtown began with the dream of serving coffees that we wanted to drink — roasted with care, brewed with precision, and always served with love. We think that that’s just the right way to do it, and we believe that doing things “the right way” with confidence, passionate people, and respect for the craft will inevitably lead to good things. We also think that it’s the least we can do to honor the hard work of the entire coffee supply chain that exists behind every cup.

Where are you located?

We have our original location in the Heights neighborhood in Houston, TX. We also have a cafe and bar space in Downtown Houston, and we're about to open a third location in the undergrond tunnel network in downtown!

What are your specialities?

We take pride in our house roasted coffee, and always have single-origin offerings from places like Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sumatra, and more. We have a full espresso-based menu, and also love our signature drinks like our Shakerato (a shaken espresso with ice, agave, citrus zest, and bitters) or Crüd (our sweet chicory cold brew beverage). Also, everyone should try a Boomtown taco -- it's a runny egg, black bean, and avocado taco in an awesomely flavorful corn tortilla.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

Try the Milk and Honey Latte! It's a super simple recipe -- espresso, steamed milk, honey, and cinnamon -- but for some reason that combination is so comforting and delicious!

What's on the stereo?

All kinds of things!

Where else should we visit in your area?

Houston's coffee scene is really amazing, so you've got to visit the other great coffee companies in town. Around our Heights shop, go shop down 19th St., visit the awesome people (and drink awesome beer) at Eureka Heights, and drive around town eating BBQ, Tex-Mex, Vietnamese, Cajun...

Do you host any special events?

We love to host private events at our downtown location, and hope to do more events with the coffee community as well as the local art and music scene.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
