Learn how-to brew a French Press and Pourover Brew with Quantum Coffee in Toronto.
How did you get started?
Quantum Coffee is the brainchild my incredibly talented team at Konrad Group, which is digital and technology firm based in Toronto.
Quantum and the overall retail and space experience was designed as a hub for the creative and digital minds of our respective cities to meet, mingle and learn. It’s an ecosystem that we created for people to connect over great coffee and experience a wide range of events and programming in our buildings, from full time web development courses at BrainStation, to coffee-centric brew classes at Quantum.
Where are you located?
We have a 20,000 square foot space located in King West downtown Toronto. Our second location, which is similarly sized, will be opening summer 2017 in downtown Vancouver at 455 Granville.
What are your specialities?
First, the coffee. Our house roasts and single origins are roasted using state-of-the-art technology in Toronto. This not only allows us to serve incredibly consistent coffee, reduces our CO2 emissions and fuel consumption by at least 77%, compared to a typical roaster.
The other two things that really make us unique are how we embrace and utilize new technologies to brew better coffee (ie. an automated Poursteady machine for pour overs) and offer our customers a world class experience through innovative space design.
What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?
People ask me this all the time, and it does change seasonally! My favourite food items are the Salted Caramel scone (to die for) and our Village Juicery Breakfast Jars, which are packed full of fresh fruit, organic grains and cashew cream.
For drinks, I always land on my trusty 8 oz. Flat White with a double shot and coconut milk. If I need a chocolate fix, our peanut butter mocha is a sweet and salty treat for the palate.
What's on the stereo?
A diverse playlist! It changes every day, depending on who's behind the bar and what's happening in the space. Some favourites are St. Germain, Solange, Grimes, XX, ODESZA, Damien Jurado, Young Galaxy, Andrew Bird.
Where else should we visit in your area?
King West is one of Toronto's fastest growing neighbourhoods and one of the first streets that was laid out in the 1793 plan of the Town of York, which became Toronto in 1834. We are lucky to call the Garment district home, where there is now a melange of advertising agencies, start-ups and local businesses housed in a lot of old-meets-new heritage buildings.
There are some really incredible restaurants and spots in the neighbourhood. Some of my favourites are Bar Buca, Khao San Road, La Carnita, Wilbur Mexicana. and SOMA Chocolatemaker which is right across the street.
Do you host any special events?
Our space was designed for events, so we (in partnership with BrainStation) have daily programming on the ground and upper floors. These events range from digital and branding workshops to pour over and cupping classes led by our amazing GM and team of baristas.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
