How did you get started?
Jessica and I (Erica) met in 2009 and instantly bonded over our love of vintage clothing. From there we had a collective need to de-hoard our closets in order to make room for more. We started doing pop-up sales around in town and found out that we really enjoyed it. In 2010 we purchased a 1964 camper trailer and started selling vintage clothing around town. IA few years later we took the leap, leased a storefront and at the time decided to add yarn. I have been knitting since college and Jessica had just fallen in love with it. The mashup of the two were and have been a perfect fit. The two vibe off of one another very well.
Where are you located?
We are located at 432 East Locust in the East Village of Des Moines, Iowa.
Which products do you specialise in?
We specialize in women’s and men’s vintage clothing as well as shoes and accessories. In addition to vintage, we carry a wide array of yarn, notions, and classes. Just this summer we have started carrying handmade goods from local Iowa artists. Already this new venture has proven most rewarding.
Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?
I don't know if I have a favorite...on the yarn side I just can't get enough Madeline Tosh (all day, every day) and on the vintage side a good t-shirt never fails! I love that everything we sell is very fluid. It can change from day to day!
What's on the stereo?
We are 90's girls at heart so anything from then is a good bet.
Where else should we visit in your area?
Oh man the East Village of Des Moines is a growing and thriving business community. We are so in love with Eden (a local bath store with a loving and welcoming atmosphere), Domestica (featuring modern handmade decor) and Scenic Route Bakery (can't get enough Honey Bees!).
Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?
HVK offers a diverse list of knitting and crochet classes. We also have fun hang out time for crafters that meet during the noon hour, Saturday mornings and Friday nights. All of those details are up on our website. We also co-host a knitting and crochet retreat called knitXmidwest with the ever fabulous Jen Geigley of the blog heyjenrenee (http://www.heyjenrenee.com/)
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
HVK is our baby and we love it so. We want to pass that on to you. Please stop in, say hi and let's get to stitching!
Do you have a favorite craft, art or supply shop in your town that we should feature? Send us a message!
