How did you get started?
The company started in 2012, Alex and I met while working in a hot sweaty Kitchen in East London. Our head chef proposed we go on a TV series called 'Cooks to Market'. Basically you had to come up with a foodie product idea, take it to the market, battle out against your contestants and then pitch to buyers and investors. We won our episode which meant we were to be stocked into Harrods food hall. We saw a gap in the market with meringues. Cupcakes, cake pops and macarons had had their day, the market was craving for a new sweet food trend!
Where are you located?
We Initially baked from Alex’s kitchen in Hackney and have now gone on to run our own Bakery in Hackney just behind Broadway Market.
What are your specialities?
Our number one seller would be the meringue kisses that come in a huge variety of flavours. From the classic flavours like chocolate, strawberry or raspberry. To the more adventurous flavours like Gin & Tonic, Christmas Pudding and our newest addition Unicorn Poo.
We also do Meringue masterclasses that have become very popular and get booked up very fast.
What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?
We make a killer peanut butter chocolate brownie that I can't get enough of. We make it using coconut flour so its also gluten free, as well as lashings of Pip & Nut peanut butter so it has the perfect sweet and salty mix. We sell this at our Meringue Girls dessert bar at Street Feast, Model Market in Lewisham.
What's on the stereo?
Black Butter Records
Where else should we visit in your area?
Pavilion Bakery, They opened up a shop on Broadway Market recently with all their usuals, breads, sandwiches and sweet treats. We go here for lunch A LOT!
We also love Lardo, It's great Italian, they do amazing pizza and pasta as well as small sharing plates. one word: Buratta.
Do you host any special events?
We host a few Meringue Masterclasses every month in our bakery in Hackney. Its always and awesome night where everyone learns how to make, colour, flavour and pipe our gorgeous meringue kisses.
